He was Maynard's roommate before he was in Tool. He made long distance calls and never paid, ate everything, drank everything, was violent, etc. After getting drunk one night, Maynard and his other roommates threw him out.

At least that's what I've been reading on most FAQs. Harry Manback II wasn't a new recording, it just wasn't released until Salival.

If you check the tool FAQ, it says this:

Danny had this to say about it in some interview:

"Message to Harry Manback is a recording of the words of an uninvited Italian guest who came to Maynard's house one day. A so-called friend of a friend of a friend of Harry's .... Before we finally managed to figure out that nobody really knew him, he had already emptied the fridge and run up a huge phone bill. He got kicked out of the house."

Harry Manback is a pseudonym for the real recipient of the message, presumably a past roommate of Maynard's: Hotsy Menshot of Green Jello.

Harry Manback was a "friend of a friend", he asked to stay with Maynard for a while, then ran up the phone bill, I'm pretty sure that this was in the UNDERTOW days, but maybe a little after. The band thought that it sounded romantic if you didn't speak english of italian...imagine a lover singing this to you and years later you found out what it meant..."O my fuck!?! My husband called me an asshole of shit!?! I hope I can get him to give me anal now..." Yeah, good times. This is a cynical look on love and how it can be mistaken for hatred, and the other way around. After all, you can only hate someone if they hurt you and that basically means that you care about them one way or another.

The name Harry Manback is most likely taken from Bill Hick's material. He talked of Harry ManAss often, Harry Manback seems like a logical step.
