  General Comment:Awesome song probably my favorite song by The Misfits. As far as meaning im not sure, if i was to make a guess i would say a hybrid moment is maybe the last few moments you experience before death. Like for example someone gets in a car accident and is ejected from the car and is dying on the asphalt. I would say maybe that person who's dying is going through a hybrid moment. But again i don't exactly know what it is im probably completely wrong but i think it could be a good guess. especially since The Misfits are a horror punk band and write a lot of songs about death but they also write a lot of great songs about other things too.

  My Interpretation:Danzig used the plots of b-rate horror movies as metaphors to his songs. the song is about spousal abuse. "if youre gonna scream, scream with me", argueing. "moments like this never last", the arguement blows over. "when do creatures rape your face", accusing the female of cheating for whatever reason. hybrid is a metaphor for an abrasive act, or when you do something without thinking. "ooh baby when you cry your face is momentary, you hide your looks behind these scars", the girl only cries and shows pain for a moment. the man thrives on that pain. the scars left from beating her leave a mark that represents pain forever. "in hybrid moments, give me a moment", the argueing is what the relationship is based off of. without it, there is nothing there.

  General Comment:I am not sure if this has anything to do with the meaning to the lyrics, but does anyone realize who wrote this song? Doc Pomus & Mort Shuman wrote Hybrid Moments. They wrote songs for Elvis and lots of other pop bands.

  That being said, in the late 80's a friend of mine noted that the song was a cover by the Misfits and the song was originally by some female singer and proceeded to play it and copy it on cassette for me. I listened to it until it finally wore out (It was mostly Misfits).
  
  For the life of me I cannot remember what the name of the band was. I have searched the internet and found nothing...
  
  Any ideas? This driving me crazy!

    I think everyone really has a grasp on the idea. The song to me describes a momentary euphoric experience, the hybrid moment, a view into the internal feeling that arises briefly. Hybrid describes the connection that happens, your conscious sexual desire and also your unconscious primal animalistic desire that's more of a desire for power, and control rather than sexual; the blending happens only for a short time, a moment, a euphoric moment. So to have a hybrid moment is to have a brief internal euphoric experience that in all rights to society could be wrong but emits such personal pleasure that its almost incoherent uncomprehending jargon to anyone else but yourself. I don't think the song is about a physical sexual experience but more internal experience, happening every time, its when the person is unable to balance the "moment" and the primal desire gains control that it turns into more of a physical sexual experience happening briefly and sometimes tragically. Off topic I think Scream by The Misfits shares similar meaning even though its about a movie and its jerry only. And also give jerry only a break, hes not danzig's clone so expect something different and try and see the similarities in there music. There both in there own right Misfits so be happy the band continued after danzig and still try's to hold on to old traditions

    Couldn't have said it better myself. I thought I commented on this song at one point, but I guess not. You delved a bit deeper into it than I did, but I've always thought that Danzig was comparing the brief euphoria one gets during a sexual climax with the moment of sheer terror in the stereotypical horror movie where the woman screams at the sight of the monster. "If you're going to scream, scream with me/Moments like this never last" and "Oh, baby, when you cry/Your face is momentary"
    
    As far as the name of the song goes, hybrid moments being what burked said above (which relates to what someone said about werewolves earlier) and also when "two become one" during sex, for lack of a better phrase.

    This song reminds me of the movie Alien. The alien is a hybrid of human/alien and then there's the line: "when do creatures rape your face." Makes me think of the facehugger. Also this song was recorded the same year that Alien came out. Makes me wonder if that movie wasn't at least a partial inspiration for these lyrics.
