Lyrics for If You're Gone as interpreted by punkmebabygal

If You're Gone Lyrics
I think I've already lost you.
I think you're already gone.
I think I'm finally scared now.
You think I'm weak, I think you're wrong.

I think you're already leaving.
Feels like your hand is on the door.
I thought this place was an empire.
Now I'm relaxed. I can't be sure

N' I think you're so mean. I think we should try.
I think I could need, this in my life.
I think I'm scared. I think too much.
I know it's wrong, it's a problem I'm feeling.

If you're gone, maybe it's time to come home.
There's an awful lot of breathing room but I can hardly move.
If you're gone. Baby you need to come home. (oh, come home)
There's a little bit of something in me, in everything in you.

I bet you're hard to get over.
I bet the moon just won't shine.
I bet my hands I can stay here
And I bet you need, more than you mind.

N" I think you're so mean. I think we should try.
I think I could need, this in my life.
I think I'm just scared... that I know too much.
I can't relate. and that's a problem I'm feeling.

If you're gone, maybe it's time to come home.
There's an awful lot of breathing room but I can hardly move.
If you're gone. Baby you need to come home. (oh, come home)
There's a little bit of something in me, in everything in you.

I think you're so mean. I think we should try.
I think I could need, this in my life.
I think I'm scared. Do I talk too much.
I know it's wrong, it's a problem I'm feeling.

If you're gone, n' maybe it's time to come home.
Well there's an awful lot of breathing room but I can hardly move.
Well, if you're gone. Hell, baby you need to come home. (oou, come home)
There's a little bit of something in me, in everything in you.

something in me
everything in
something in me
in you...

this song is all about that moment when you realize someone is going to break up with you.. i went through that recently, and thank goodness it wasn't true, but it perfectly described that scared feeling..

I agree with dev0n. The moment when you realize that your relationship is unstoppably going down the tubes, and you know that you are going to be broken up with.

THis song has so many personal meanings to me. I knew that my Grampa was going to die real shortly, And the begining of this song is like he is about to leave and then the ending is me so mad at who ever took him.
It means a lot more that just breaking up w/some one.
Just my 2 cents :-)

That's what I love about Rob Thomas, he writes songs that can be interpreted to mean so many things, yet you feel apply perfectly to just you.
This exactly described the breakup with my best friend and first true love.. she thought things were getting a little too serious, and waited awhile to tell me - so by the time I got wind of things not being perfect between us (she's good at hiding things) she had already begun to push away, and a month later she broke up with me a couple days after she kissed another guy.
We stayed best friends for awhile, and even today are very close - but it was a ripping away of everything I held dear, and for a month I had to stay her best friend, but without the intimacy you share with a girlfriend, something I had been used to.
And for months after the breakup, I had to hear of the guys she was with, what awesome kissers they were, even though they didn't care 1/10th for her as much as I did.. it's something that causes you to revert to boylike loneliness, confusion, and pain.. that's what I think this song encompasses. But that's just me.

actually, rob thomas wrote this song on no terms of breaking up. when he was on tour he was nervous about being engaged and if the marraige would work out.

to me this song describes the inevitable. You've been together with someone for a while and you really love this person but suddenly they start to become distant and before you even know it, they're gone.

Relating this to my situation.. before a couple breaks up.. you always know, you ALWAYS know.. even if you try to deny it, you know it's going to happen. You go through confusion and denial.. hense, "I think you're so mean - I think we should try".. you know it's best to break up.. but you want to hold on so much.. but in the end, you know it won't last, so you let go..

i totaly understand what ur sayin misundazt00d, me and my g/f just went through a period of breaking up and getting back together. every time we broke up, i knew it was going to happen. and even now i still have very deep feelings for her, but it was for the best that we broke up...

anyways, what i think of the song, i agree with devon, its that hell forbiden scary feeling when you think the person you love is going to end it with you but you kiss and make up. very good song even though im not a huge matchbox 20 fan

I love this. As was said up ^^ there, I never ever get tired of listening to this song, even two years on. All my friends say this is their song that reminds them of me - probably cos I've told so many people to download it or buy it. I must be responsible for 50% sales of Mad Season by Matchbox 20 in the Uk. :) Lol

To me it's that last chance to reach out to someone before it happens. It's that point in maybe a long lasting relationship where maybe you just went to the next level whatever it is, moving in, engagement, marriage, and you either feel your lover fading away, or worry that you aren't good enough for him/her. It's that time when you say "baby let me know what's going on". And you talk, sometimes it's over after that, sometimes you save a good thing.

to me, its about when you realize that the person you're dating is no good & its time to let them go.. but it hurts you so much and creates contradictory feelings. In the end, always let him go.... because he's a stupid asshole. PAT!

This song was written for Rob's wife, not so much because he was nervous as someone previously mentioned, but he wrote this to let her know what life would be like without her, basically miserable. If she ever left him, he couldn't handle it, so much of the other person in each one of them. To him, she is home, and vice versa, so why leave that? Everyone else seems to have gotten something else out of the song... but why not right? Sure sounds weird... but hey, I got this straight from Rob himself when I saw him on MTV.

this song really describes my feelings for my now ex (not by choice). the room doesn't shine without her. i thought we had everything like an empire, but it fell. there's so much of us in each other, i don't think everything is over for us yet. thanks.

Yet another great song by matchbox 20, but, they're all great right? Also, I may be mistaken, but I always thought the lyric went "I bet the moon just wont shine".

guys, rob actually wrote this song about when he lost his guitar - it was one of his favourites and it really tore him up. anyway, we can all interpret it in our own way.

the song is about wondering whether or not a realtionship will last. he questions how he would survive without her and says that, despite the relationships problems, he needs her

the song's a lot opinionated from what i see in the lyrics. There's a lot of "I think" "I bet" and "Feels like"....

i agree with everyone who said it was about the stage right before a breakup and knowing that it can't last, but hoping to dear God that it will because you truly love the person.
