Lyrics for Paranoid Android as interpreted by piesupreme

Paranoid Android Lyrics
Please could you stop the noise, I'm trying to get some rest
From all the unborn chicken voices in my head
What's that, what's that?

When I am king you will be first against the wall
With your opinion which is of no consequence at all
What's that, what's that?

Ambition makes you look pretty ugly
Kicking, squealing, Gucci little piggy

You don't remember, you don't remember
Why don't you remember my name?
Off with his head, man, off with his head, man
Why don't you remember my name?
I guess he does

Rain down, rain down, come on rain down on me
From a great height, from a great height, height
Rain down, rain down, come on rain down on me
From a great height, from a great height, height

That's it sir, you're leaving
The crackle of pig skin
The dust and the screaming
The yuppies networking
The panic, the vomit
The panic, the vomit
God loves his children
God loves his children, yeah

The video and song both let people know the trauma of life. naturally, everyone knows by now that life isn't some sort of game and should be taken seriously, but not many of us actually follow those guidelines. Sadly, this brings even more heartache and suffering because noone deals with things directly. I think this song gives people the courage enough to do just that. that particular meaning is not eveident by many, but it is surely felt by myself.

This song is amazing. When I listen to it, every time I hear it, I have a certain feeling inside which i can describe. The song has got so much felling and emotion, which i can't describe! When it gets to the slower part... WOW!! I can't explain!!
But this is AMAZING!!

This song obviously can be split into three parts (that were to be three seperate songs, but this just seemed to work)

"Please could you stop the noise I'm trying to get some rest?
From all the unborn chicken voices in my head
What's that, what's that

When I am king you will be first against the wall
With your opinion which is of no consequence at all
What's that, what's that "

Being the first part, this is where the title gets the "Paranoid" part. Easy enough, the voice speaking talks of great paranoia and aspirations of that far surpassing his/her capabilities.

"Ambition makes you look pretty ugly
Kicking squealing gucci little piggy

You don't remember, you don't remember, why don't you remember my name
Off with his head man, off with his head man
Why don't you remember my name?-- I guess he does"

This portion, although very different and supposedly unconnected to the first, creates an antagonist to the first character. This one openly states his/her feelings, and beliefs. This is everything the first one isn't.

"Rain down, rain down, come on rain down on me
From a great height, from a great height, height
Rain down, rain down, come on rain down on me
From a great height, from a great height, height

(repeats 3rd time, underneath vocals are:)
That's it sir, you're leaving,
the crackle of pig skin,
the dust and the screaming
The yuppies networking
the panic, the vomit,
the panic, the vomit
God loves his children,
God loves his children, yeah "

Now, and this is a stretch, I believe this one is the android. Also paranoid, this one feels the whole world is on it's shoulders. Does Marvin ring a bell? (here comes the stretch...) In the book, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, there is a character, Marvin, the Paranoid Android. This character feels it is given the most demeaning tasks, considering it's large mental capacity.

This is one of my personal favorite songs (the reason I bought OK Computer, my favorite CD) and yet this song fills me with so much dread.

I love this song. One of the best off the album. Maybe the best. Very good live, too. Awesome video. One of the coolest songs I have ever heard.

I've been thinking of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in relation to this song actually. Not only does the book have a character MArvinthe Paranoid Android, but there is also a line where the Guide descibe's a company whose opinion is not at all acurate, saying they will be "first against the wall when the revolution comes" anyone know if they are douglas adam's fans, or am I just reading too far into this?

it definently has something to do with the hitchhickers guide to the galaxy and marvin. If you listen very closely in the chorus, someone is saying "something something something Paranoid android." I think this could be a book on tape version of THGTTG.

firstly, it is saying "i may be paranoid but i am no android" or similar..
secondly, radiohead almost certainly like Douglas Adams books.
thirdly, hitch hikers guide was released on radio before the book came along, so technically it's not a book on tape. (sorry, i'm getting a too picky now..)
fourthly, i don't think the part about the android is in there, but is it certainly inspired by marvin.
fifthly, what a great fucking song. jonny's best ever song in my opinion. the last guitar solo.. genius.

This song doesnt even has a meaning to radiohead themselfs, it was put together of 3 songs, in an interwiew the song was ascociated with the fall of the roman empire, and Radiohead thought that was a good explanation for the lyrics so chose that one, it is just a good song without a real meaning behind it... but it still kix a hell lot of ass!!

Well from the music video and the title gives me a meaning how the world especially in Japan makes us work like an android. In Japan, everyone works hard as hell like there is no other way to survive and that's why people living like an android becomes paranoid. In the music video is part of the example of the politician guy who almost or already kill himself. For the "Don't you remember my name" part I guess is that people in the city doesn't really care about people's name, even though they do it doesn;t matter "I guess you do".
Walah!

Jove, people got to understand you, man! If you're just going to spew out thoughts gifted from the rare air up there in the form of a madman how do you think people are going to take you? It doesn't matter what you say if you don't know how to say it properly. Think about it. Pay your dues.

I especially like the part
"The panic, the vomit
The panic, the vomit
God loves his children
God loves his children, yeah"
To me (i'm not saying they meant it this way) this is a sarcastic statement about God by saying he loves us directly after talking about uncomfortable emotions and difficulties.

Maybe they wrote this song with all of those meanings in mind... or maybe they wrote it and didn't have a meaning at all. That's what's so great about Radiohead, their songs have many interpretations.

Jove had a death dream waking up at impact of atomic bombs, with "from a great geight" playing in dream when looking upright missiles downing, and this prior to 9/11, which seemed to the NE, so hmm.. http://hometown.aol.com/jupiterlordjovei/ I would pay that dude or for his science if I was you first, W/$ ANd one of the missiles was NASA itself, hmm own ship itself, and Jove worote that to the the press then, so somewhere in the records that is provable

What exactly does "first against the wall" mean? I read it in "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and then I heard it in this song, but I've never heard it anywhere else. Is it a common expression in Britain?
