I agree with lahdeefrigginda. Also it wasn't entirely writen by the Chilis, if I remember correctly the Chilies only co-wrote it. It was their producer Michael Bienhorne who wrote most of it i think.

this song reminds me of my cuzzie sarah ridgeway who is majorly obsessed with dolphins.also its by the RED HOT chili peppers, so its awesome.anthony kiedis is going to bo my lover one day.the end

if anyone dosent know jack irons (the drummer back then) has lots of whales and dolphin tattoos and they mean allot to him through peace and all that stuff. he also wanted hillel to stop drugs. i think that jack wanted this song go to hillels head and be clean. sadly that didnt happen and rhcp got it a hit because of that. god bless this beautiful band

I cant figure this out, on one hand I always thought it was about being in tune with nature and animals/earth, but on the other hand this line makes me think:

I watch my dolphin swim away

Maybe a reference to drugs as in the sun is sobre and the rain is drugs so the dolphin swims away, being his senses are drowned/numbed whilst on drugs (possibly) or maybe vice versa. Still a great song

mmm it could mean ither and ak was thinking of stopeing drugs before writting this song and he may have thought to himself "what a wonderful world i could live in if i didnt do any drugs" and then he may have thought of hillel as he was felling quite weak and not able to do much and ak may wanted him to stop drugs aswell.
but on the same hand ak was always into love

Anthony was on drugs when Hillel died. He had previously become clean, about 4 months before that, but he had gone back.

i think this song may symbolise ants vegetarianism cause in the video you can see little cartoon men killing whales for no purpose and things like that. i think its all about the beauty of nature and how we take it for granted and things like that

Well AK says that he wrote it but that it was a reflection of Hillel. But it is also very connected to Jack Irons because he was into that.

This song actually reminds me a bit of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (or whatever its called) where it says that dolphins are as smart as us, but all they do is play around, and the dolphins say that that is WHY they are smarter. They have a better, loving world, without all the war and wrongs in a person's world.

This is a theme from Green Heaven, too, which was only two albums earlier.
