So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
You abandoned me
Love don't live here anymore
Just a vacancy
Love don't live here anymore
When you lived inside of me
There was nothing I could conceive
That you wouldn't do for me
Trouble seemed so far away
You changed that right away, baby
You abandoned me
Love don't live here anymore
Just a vacancy
Love don't live here anymore
Love don't live here anymore
Just emptiness and memories
Of what we had before
You went away
Found another place to stay, another home
You abandoned me
Love don't live here anymore
Just a vacancy
Love don't live here anymore
You're the windmills of my eyes
Everyone can see the loneliness inside me
Why'd ya have to go away (away)
Don't you know I miss you so and need your love
You abandoned me
Love don't live here anymore
(Love don't live here anymore)
Just a vacancy
Love don't live here anymore
You abandoned me
Love don't live here anymore
Live here anymore
Love don't live here anymore
Love don't live here anymore
No no don't, don't live live here anymore
You abandoned me
Love don't live here anymore
No it don't live here anymore
Love, don't, live here (love don't live here anymore)
Anymore
It don't live here anymore
Love don't live here anymore
Just a vacancy
Love don't live here anymore
When you lived inside of me
There was nothing I could conceive
That you wouldn't do for me
Trouble seemed so far away
You changed that right away, baby
You abandoned me
Love don't live here anymore
Just a vacancy
Love don't live here anymore
Love don't live here anymore
Just emptiness and memories
Of what we had before
You went away
Found another place to stay, another home
You abandoned me
Love don't live here anymore
Just a vacancy
Love don't live here anymore
You're the windmills of my eyes
Everyone can see the loneliness inside me
Why'd ya have to go away (away)
Don't you know I miss you so and need your love
You abandoned me
Love don't live here anymore
(Love don't live here anymore)
Just a vacancy
Love don't live here anymore
You abandoned me
Love don't live here anymore
Live here anymore
Love don't live here anymore
Love don't live here anymore
No no don't, don't live live here anymore
You abandoned me
Love don't live here anymore
No it don't live here anymore
Love, don't, live here (love don't live here anymore)
Anymore
It don't live here anymore

Agreed with previous three bloggers! In early ballad Love Don't Live Here Anymore, never has Madonna sounded so sad, dejected and heartbroken in her life. Subscribes to the First Unwritten Rule in Classic Rock-When a Cover is Not a Cover. When Lady Madonna was in the middle of recording Like a Virgin in 84, she cried at her first teacher Nile Rodgers and she screamed "Nile, I'm having a nervous breakdown! You see, my mother died when I was a little girl! I Am also a ballad singer!" Nile wondered "Madge, I hear you're naughty and controversial. Now let me hear what you're really made of. I Know you're sad. Go on and sing and cry to and for your mother!" When the song finished, Madonna cried with all her might and sang Love Don't Live Here Anymore in one take. Suddenly the Detroit Rock City Torch Balladeer was well on her way and a ticket to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Madonna seemed visibly sad, heartfelt and choked-up. Her friend and collaborator on 08's Bunny Masterpiece Hard Candy named Justin Timberlake was speechless and exclaimed "Madonna-A Beautiful Stranger and a True Friend! Madonna, with Sad Tears in Her Eyes and a Happy Smile on Her Face described her music as "Planting seeds and watching them grow. Mo matter what I do, it'll always be about the Music. Thank You." Love Don't Live Here Anymore would be the first of such songs. Madonna was now immortal and brilliant. As we celebrate the kickoff of the MDNA Tour, may it ever be so for Madonna Louise Ciccone. Love Does Live Here-in Our Hearts. Madonna Forever!
