Lyrics for Dare You To Move as interpreted by messymiss9

Dare You To Move Lyrics
Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Everyone's watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next?
What happens next?

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move like today never happened
Today never happened before

Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
The tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be, yeah

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move like today never happened
Today never happened

Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?

Salvation is here

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move like today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened before

this is such a sad song, makes me want to cry everytime. but anyways. i think this is a song about a failed relationship. the other person has been trying to froget that anything has happened and the narrator is trying to help the other person realize that the situation cannot be ignored (welcome to the fallout...the tension is here...between how it is and how it should be).
the narrator is also kind of confused as to how the other person can somehow pretend it never happened, hence the "i dare you to move like today never happened"
that's just what i think, although i'm not very good at this.
suggestions anyone??

This to me is an encouraging song. It's basically saying that it's time for change, and you can either stay down, or pick your self up and move like today never happened before. When i feel like i'm worthless, like God can have no use for me, I'm reminded that "forgiveness is right where you fell," and God has forgiven my sins. It's a challenge for me to live aggressively for God, not in a curled fetal position on the floor, taking life's kicks to the face. It's helped me alot, just my interpretation.

Switchfoot is a great band. (I get to see them in concert in May!!!)
Anyhoo, what I gather from this song is that they're saying that if you fail, try again. (I think that cuz of the "I dare you to pick yourself up off the floor")
I think that they're saying bad stuff is gonna happen, but you gotta be strong, and keep moving forward.
Switchfoot rules.
God bless everyone.

Way2Emo, Switchfoot is a horrible band. The first clue is that they appeared on the A Walk To Remember soundtrack. This was enough evidence for me, but if you still need more convincing, you might want to listen to them-- they blow.

This song reminds me of the girl that I like so much. It's almost like I dare myself to move. I dared myself, and I did it. It's developing well. But you just have to dare yourself to move if you are going to do something..Thanks.

At the beginning of the song, it says that everyone is watching and waiting for you to do something. Then it says "dare you to move", and what I get out of it is that we are encouraged to take a stand for Christ. Why not go against the grain and stand up for what we believe in. We are to let go of our past lives and selves to move forward, even if it may cause problems between us and other people. The only true escape from our sin and past problems, is through the redemtion of Jesus Christ!

nerdy, why are you trying to be rude? I'm quite sure not everyone in the world enjoys YOUR favorite bands. Leave people alone. People can like whatever they want. If you don't like them, fine, but you don't have to act like an immature "my music is better than yours" kid. A Walk to Remember is a great movie in my opinion, the book even better. Maybe you couldn't catch the meaning in the story...who knows. You seem to suggest that you hated them before you heard them based on the fact that they were on the sndtrck alone, what does that say about you?
have a nice day everyone!

Switchfoot is a christian band, and if I'm not mistaken that movie had some religion in it, so I didn't think it was a bad idea...that's just what I got out of it. They're a good band, I really like their music.

if you dont like the music thats fine. you are aloud to have your own opinion. but if you didnt like it why did you come to look at the lyrics? just so you could rag on it? thats rather mean if you ask me. but anyway, i enjoy some of there music. you can tell they really have talent.

i think this song is about someone who has messed up alot or something bad has happened to them and he's just telling them to just move forward and don't worry about it. all can and will be forgiven. don't live their lives on one big mistake or one bad event.

the song had really no effect on me. i dont like it, and i dont hate it. whatever. but the movie, a walk to remember. man i read that book a few years ago, and it to this day is one of the best books i have ever read. so when i saw that they made a movie, i was really excited. then i went and saw the movie....what a horrible waste of film. they completely changed the story, and didnt even have the main parts of the book that made it so meaningful and good. they took what was a really great story, and turned it into another highschool love movie. i hate highschool movies already, just because they are unrealistic and people try to be like that. people like expect things in real life to be like highschool movies but they never are. and a walk to remember just fed that fire. if they had followed the book it would have been great. and if you have not read the book, then read it and you'll see what im talking about.

When I heard this song I had no idea that switchfoot was a Christian band so I assumed that the lyrics were about love or wanting someone etc. but now I can sorta see how they would have a religious context...either way, its an awesome song!:D

I have always related this song to a bad day. When i've had a hard day, i tend to want to lay in bed, and never leave that comfort. I found this song to be a challenge, to not let the toils and troubles of this world drag you down, but to keep going stronger than ever. "I dare you to lift yourself off of the floor" is a strong line for me; depression can bring you to the lowest depths of your feelings and emotions, and he's telling us that while it's ok to show sorrow, don't let it keep you where you are.
