Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Everyone's watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next?
What happens next?

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move like today never happened
Today never happened before

Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
The tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be, yeah

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move like today never happened
Today never happened

Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?

Salvation is here

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move like today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened before

My Interpretation:I honestly view this song as relating to anyone, at any stage in their life. Sort of an awakening, of what is really going on around their exterior world, and within themselves. Doesn’t matter how old or where one is; when met at this point or fork in the road. Perhaps, steps taken to this point, one finds themself in a place, where living life is just going through the motions. Or, waking up to realizing it wasn’t supposed to be this way. One can be alive and be spiritually dead, or drained emotionally, physically, etc. We can overcome and make things better, if we learn from where we’ve been and have a dream of where to go, next. Our healing is within us, our minds and souls. Re-create yourself and get the dream envisioned, then run towards the betterment of yourself. :)

My Interpretation:welcome to the fall out, to me means being slain in the holy spirit..
when your slain in the spirit, its really hard to move, so dare you to move to me means just that when your slain in the spirit i dare you to move..

everyone is here, meaning just that were here on the planet, waiting for the Lord to come.. bless you and foot note if YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN RECIEVE...

General Comment:the song is very clear
for those of you who said that you went to the concert and heard them explain its meaning
I believe that the band might have given one part of its meaning. songs are written inspired in many things, not just one .
is easy to understand it without having to overanalyze it.theres 2 different videos for it .
aslo life is like the sea you have to swim to get to an island during that you can drown if you dont know how to swim. There is a Japanese saying, that is translated as...
Fall seven times, stand up eight. We are the ones
    We get knocked down
We get back up and stand above the crowd
    We are one

    Welcome to the planet
    Welcome to existence

    Everyone's here(God,antichrist,angels,evil,)
    Everyone's here(family,relatives,neighboors,brothers and sisters)
    Everyone's watching you now(god, angels,devils,fallen angels,secret ajents ,surveliance.people)

Everybody waits for you now(afterlife=jesus god in heaven, death relatives,)or every body waits for you to chosse your path wether is career or religion or both in life.

    I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
    I dare you to move
I dare you to move like today never happened

    in the tension

Welcome to the planet &Welcome to the fallout

Song Meaning:i saw them in concert and they explained this song. it is actual more literal than most people think. it is about a friend of his that got in a really bad car wreck. i guess he couldn't walk so this song was kind of like an encouragement for his friend telling him to neer give up.

General Comment:I think this song basically says that life is not about making mistakes but what you do afterwards..."what happens next?..." and that making mistakes is just a part of living "welcome to existence..."

General Comment:It's sounds to me as if the artist is trying to say that mistakes aren't the end. There is always an opportunity to correct mistakes, seek redemption, and to be granted forgiveness. However, the first step to make things right is to move.

General Comment:Awesome song, Jon Foreman is a genius. This song is about trying to live the perfect life Christ intended in the midst of imperfections.

The song is written from Christ's point of view, most likely speaking to a new believer (welcome to existence, resistance, fallout, etc.).

And trying to live the Christ life (AKA the "zoe" described by C.S. Lewis in Mere Christianity) is tension ("the tension is here") between the sinful nature and the perfect person Christ desires. As C.S. Lewis put it, Christ does not wish to subdue, to mitigate, or to torment our old, sinful nature. Christ wishes to kill it completely. Christ demands perfection.

However we have been far from perfect in the past, and continue to be dreadfully lacking in the present.

The challenge (Dare you to move) is to have faith that Christ will rectify our shame as we boldly strive to live perfect lives, to become "who you could be." There is nothing we can do to earn forgiveness and nowhere we can "run to escape from ourselves." But earning salvation is not our job. Christ has already done it for us on the cross, "salvation is here". Our shame is paid for, "today never happened." Our job is to move, to "lift ourselves up off the floor" and strive to live the life Christ desires. It is Christ who gives us the ability to get up ("forgiveness is right where you fell"). We no longer have to live under the old law of sin and death, Christ has set us free and empowered us to walk. And now Christ dares us to move.

And to take from C.S. Lewis once again, we live the Christ life by allowing Christ to kill our old, sinful nature and fill the void with his own perfection. This is not a one-time happening. This is a war that begins anew everyday. "Welcome to resistance" is a call to put to death the things of the sinful nature and allow God to fill you instead. And it is from God's dwelling inside of you that you begin to become "who you could be," a process that continues to the end of our earthly lives and beyond.

"being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

My Interpretation:well as a "non-believer" i heartily disagree that the only message of this song is about a person going up to the altar and accepting Christ. and before anyone starts jumping down my throat that i dont "know" about Christianity i've read the old and new testaments, i've taken world relligions, i was baptised, confirmed, an altar boy, lector, eucharistic minister, church sacristan and even slated for priesthood at one point.

so when i say i know what you guys are talking about i mean it, i just dont agree with it

i think this song has two meanings (three is you interpret it as a message to "non-believers" about the Christian faith). one thing that is certain is the "i dare you to move" chorus is the definite meaning as its chanted constantly throughout the song

    so, number one:

yes it could be interpreted as someone finally deciding to accept Christ but other than the band's background i see no evidence anywhere else in the song that validates that chorus as a symbolism for conversion. the only one that "might" point in that direction is "salvation is here" but that phrase has been thrown around so many times its hardly a trademark of any one single belief.

    number two:

instead the rest of the song, from my PoV, emphasizes more on "hi, welcome to real life. shit happens and it always will so get over it because the only person who can save you from a wasted life is you. and im telling you this as a friend because i want to see you be happy - and so should you. but dont get me wrong, im not going to sit here and blow sunshine up your ass. yes its scary but it wouldnt be worth it if there wasnt a chance of failing once or twice, so... I dare you to move."

    numero three:

the other interpretation that i find accurate is the one - one of the first commenters made about it relating to a relationship where one person is still very much feeling the effect of a hard breakup while the other is acting like it never happened. the main lines that point to this are the "everyone's watching you" as well as the "fallout", "resistance", and "how it should be". now the thing is how does that i dare you to move part and this interpretation calls for the narrator calling their ex's bluff that their relationship really means nothing to them. speaking from personal experience, its been six years and she's still the love of my life and i dont think i'll ever stop loving her - i just have to hope someday another someone special will come along and turn my world upside down.

so there yah go, two completely different interpretations that are either just as good as the relating to christanity or maybe even better. and again, this may be coming from a "non-believer" but until switchfoot actually makes a statement about what it means one interpretation is as valid as any other

General Comment:see, due to my pessimistic nature, i take this song in an almost sarcastic tone. to me it's got a story that starts out where it's like "i DARE you to move. i'd love to see you try." but then, after going through some deep crap together the two people involved in this song realize they need each other with the whole "today never happened" parts.

General Comment:I went to a concert where he expalined this song. It is about a good friend of his getting in a car wreck and becoming paralyzed. He pretty much gave up on ever trying to walk again. The lead singer wrote this song as an encouragement for him to try to walk.
