If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all ok
And not to worry because worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I will not be made useless
I won't be idled with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear

My hands are small, I know,
But they're not yours they are my own
But they're not yours they are my own
And I am never broken

Poverty stole your golden shoes
But it didn't steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But i knew it wasn't ever after

We will fight, not out of spite
For someone must stand up for what's right
Cause where there's a man who has no voice
There ours shall go singing

My hands are small, I know,
But they're not yours they are my own
But they're not yours they are my own
And I am never broken

In the end only kindness matters
In the end only kindness matters

I will get down on my knees and I will pray
I will get down on my knees and I will pray
I will get down on my knees and I will pray

My hands are small, I know,
But they're not yours they are my own
But they're not yours they are my own
And I am never broken

My hands are small, i know,
But they're not yours they are my own
But they're not yours they are my own
And I am never broken
We are never broken

We are God's eyes God's hands God's mind
We are God's eyes God's hands God's heart
We are God's eyes God's hands God's eyes God's hands
We are God's hands God's hands We are God's hands

General Comment:O YEAH she wrote this song when she was 12, her aunt told me she had big hands even back than so its not auto biographal just so you know. SYMBOLISM people! Every one says she grew up in a van but she lived in a DUGOUT for a few years. Bully kids say ""hey Jewel you packrat get back to your acorns"" Jewel was a sensative soul she knew all about getting pecked on why did she write this song thats why. In concert she says GUCCI shoes in stead of golden shoes, just a little thing to make u laugh.

My Interpretation: I think this songs represents disasters we face in life whether it be death of a loved one, a house burning, floods ruining our homes and businesses or anything life changing from the point of view of someone who has been through it all that wants to be of help by telling them all that they will be okay and not to worry cause it wont do you any good.
This person has came to help instead of sitting on the sidelines feeling sorry for others, they want to be a light to someone in their time of darkness. It doesn’t matter how big or small you are, you can always do something good to help someone and they remain strong.
It talks about how you may have been rich at one point but things came up and you lost it all but you’re still able to laugh, then its like it switches and this person tells how they have been heart broken too but they knew it wasn’t the end for them.
The part about we’ll fight means simply that you will go through arguments in life, its necessary because you have to stand for something or someone who has no voice or ability to fight, such as you have to be a voice for those who have none.
At the end of everything kindness and love is all that will matter! You will always remember the kind things someone has done for you.
It also takes on a spiritual part too, telling that they will pray for them and we are Gods eyes, gods hands, gods mind, and that because of that everything will be okay!

General Comment:At a concert that I went to of Jewels, she explained why she wrote this song. When she was in LA, living in her car she didn't have any money to buy food or anything. She went to the grocery store and stole one carrot ("who would've known carrots were a gateway drug?" haha). After that she figured out that stealing was very easy. So she continued to steal bits of food from the grocery store, and it progressed into stealing clothing and such. Then it finally hit her when she spotted a cute little sundress in the window of a local shop. She looked at the price tag on it, and it was $40.00, and she thought to herself, "what kind of a person am I to not be able to afford a 40 dollar dress?" She stopped stealing that day, and wrote this song.

I found this story very interesting and sad. This is definetaly one of my all time favorite songs.
    enjoy!

General Comment:i had written a comment before and after listeneng to the song for about a half an hour i am sure now that the song is about Rachel Scott
Rachel wrote an essay about kindness and a chain reaction that is someone does something nice that person will return the favor
she also wrote on the back of her dresser about her hands and how someday her hands will reach and touch others hearts
and she had a diary that she said she was going to bow to god and as she wrote it seemed like she knew she was going to die
    Rachel
she was a fantastic girl who stood up for everyone and she said she would never be useless and would someday change the world
in my perspective Jewel and Rachel both have the right picture
WE NEED TO STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT AND WE NEED TO SEE THE BIG PICTURE
NOT JUST WHAT WE WANT TO SEE

General Comment:I am only 15 and i was at high school today and there was an assembly about Rachel's challenge
it is about a girl who was murdered at school it was columbine high school in colorado and at the end they were playing this song along with a video of all the people she helped in her small life. she was murdered by classmates.
this girl that died was amazing and the song matched perfectly with what happened
it made me wonder if Jewel created this song to go with the story
the girls name is Rachel Scott if you wanted to know.

General Comment:definitely my favorite on this album. I think this song is about how instead of just sitting around bemoaning the state of the world, we should stand up and fight for what we beleive in. No matter how small of a difference you make, your actions are the one thing you are responsible for
