Hip, hip (x 4)

When you're on a holiday
You can't find the words to say
All the things that come to you
And I want to feel it too

On an island in the sun
We'll be playin' and havin' fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can't control my brain

Hip, hip (x 2)

When you're on a golden sea
You don't need no memory
Just a place to call your own
As we drift into the zone

On an island in the sun
We'll be playin' and havin' fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can't control my brain

We'll run away together
We'll spend some time forever
We'll never feel that anymore

Hip, hip (x 3)

On an island in the sun
We'll be playin' and havin' fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can't control my brain

We'll run away together
We'll spend some time forever
We'll never feel that anymore

Hip, hip
We'll never feel that anymore
Hip, hip
No, no
Hip, hip
We'll never feel that anymore
Hip, hip
No, no
Hip, hip
No, no

Song Meaning:My grandmother, who lives next door to Rivers, said Rivers told her this song is about when he met his wife. Why would an old lady lie?

General Comment:I'd like to think it is how the halcyon of an island/vacation are relaxing. However, to those that believe the song is referring to drugs, I can see that too. I can't control my brain" makes me think the island could be a metaphor for drugs.

Throw back to my Mary-Kate and Ashley days.. One of my favorite songs.

General Comment:i think island in the sea refers to heaven.
ppl die and go to heaven, so they don't need to feel bad anymore.

Song Meaning:ya this song is totally about tripping. Im pretty sure it's suppose to be "we'll never feel bad anymore" not "we'll never feel that anymore."

My Interpretation:I think this song is a basic ontological statement, parodying "Gaunilo’s Perfect Island" argument for the existence of God / paradise and it's relation to thoughts and physical sensations that ensue when high on a mind altering substance.

I think "hip" is a reference to the slang meaning to smoke opiates, and that "I can't control my brain" is a reference to wanting to revisit or to "enter the zone", not to get high but to perceive alternate possibilities than reality cannot offer. This can be seen in:

    "When you're on a holiday
You can't find the words to say
All the things that come to you
And I want to feel it too"

As far as the way the song sounds, I pick up a touch of melancholy from the chord progression and the angst in Rivers' voice suggesting that although this form of escape can yield positive outcomes it can also leave one homesick for reality.

General Comment:I feel the song is bitter yet sweet in some kinda way. Maybe it is supposed to be a joyful summer holiday soundtrack but turns out River's vocal is just too minor :P

General Comment:This isn't anything to do with a relationship. It's rather about going to heaven. So unless the Olsen twins are dying, then no, it doesn't fit.
