Lyrics for Fairy Tales And Castles as interpreted by daniela_m_a

Fairy Tales And Castles Lyrics
HE SAYS HE LOOKS IN THE MIRROR
AND HE CAN'T TELL ANYMORE
WHO HE REALLY IS AND WHO THEY BELIEVE HIM TO BE
AND HE SAYS HE WALKS A THIN LINE
BETWEEN WHAT IS AND WHAT COULD BE
AND HE'S GETTING CLOSER
TO SOMETHING HE CAN UNDERSTAND

CAUSE THERE'S A CRACK IN HIS PLASTIC CROWN
AND HIS THRONE OF ICE IS MELTING
HE CLIMBED HIS LADDER
THERE WAS NOTHING THERE
AND NOW IT'S A LONG WAY DOWN
IT'S A LONG WAY DOWN

(CHORUS)
ON AND ON AND ON HE GOES DANCING ON THE GRAVE
OF WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS STILL ALIVE
ON AND ON AND ON HE GOES
DANCING IN MANSIONS MADE OF TWIGS
AND CASTLES MADE OF SAND

HE SAYS HIS HEAD IS FILLED WITH
CARTOONS AND FAIRY TAILS
AND HE'S TRAPPED INSIDE A DUNGEON OF DOLLS
WITH SMILES ON THEIR FACES
HE'S BUILT A PRETTY CAGE
HIS SHOWS ON A BEAUTIFUL STAGE
WITH CANDY COATED PRISON BARS
AND CHAINS THAT LOOK LIKE JEWELRY

CAUSE THERE'S A CRACK IN HIS PLASTIC CROWN
AND HIS THRONE OF ICE IS MELTING
HE CLIMBED HIS LADDER
THERE WAS NOTHING THERE
AND NOW IT'S A LONG WAY DOWN

(REPEAT CHORUS)
ON AND ON AND ON AND ON HE GOES ON AND ON
ON AND ON AND ON AND ON HE GOES ON AND ON

CAUSE HE LIVES INSIDE
OF FAIRYTALES AND CASTLES NOW
AND THERE'S ROOM INSIDE
FOR FALSE EXPECTATIONS AND ILLUSIONS

CAUSE THERE'S A CRACK IN HIS PLASTIC CROWN
AND HIS THRONE OF ICE IS MELTING
HE CLIMBED HIS LADDER
THERE WAS NOTHING THERE
AND NOW IT'S A LONG WAY DOWN
IT'S A LONG WAY DOWN

(REPEAT CHORUS 2 TIMES)
ON AND ON AND ON AND ON HE GOES ON AND ON
ON AND ON AND ON AND ON HE GOES ON AND ON
ON AND ON AND ON AND ON HE GOES ON AND ON

This song is alright, I guess. I've only listened to it twice (I just downloaded it) but it seems like it would have to be one of those songs that grow on you. To me it's speaking of a guy who's about to give up, but he just keeps going. For whatever reason.

it's about a kid, who's being fooled and used by everyone he knows, he keeps on telling himself that his friends are true (dancing in mansions made of twigs) but in the end he'll find out...

I think this song is about the loss of innocence. A kid is growing up and corruption is destroying his innocence. His throne of ice that he used to play with is melting. Now his castle is full of false expectations and illusions because the world is deceiving him. I think this is a powerful song if you read between the lines.

Well I have an opinion about what this song could mean, Some months ago I met this boy and we became into best friends, he knew everything about me and I used to think that I knew everything about him but suddenly I fell in love with him and then he stoped talking to me =( and I was really sad but then a friend told me that everything he told me was a lie! his life was such a lie, he wasn't who he told me he was, he was living in a "fairy tale" and I think he was making "castles made of sand" I think he wanted to be soomeone else and he had a problem and he didnt really know who he was, also he was telling everyone that I was his girlfriend and that wasn't true, so maybe when I reallized all this things "CAUSE THERE'S A CRACK IN HIS PLASTIC CROWN"
AND HIS THRONE OF ICE IS MELTING
AND HE CAN'T TELL ANYMORE
WHO HE REALLY IS AND WHO THEY BELIEVE HIM TO BE
AND HE SAYS HE WALKS A THIN LINE
BETWEEN WHAT IS AND WHAT COULD BE

Curiously he was the one who introduced me into the Lifehouse songs, and this one and Breathing were his favorites- well hehe just a opinion!

I first heard this song in an InuYasha AMV I watched on YouTube, great song. And I interpreted it in two ways.

1. It’s about (how DancingNanciesDMB said) a loss of innocence. About a young man that is beginning to understand that the world is not what he believed it to be. And he will have to move on from what he used to treasure when he was younger.

2. It could also be about a guy a Peter Pan Complex; not wanting to grow up and mature. But time is moving on and he’s being forced to, whether he wants to or not.

I like to think this song is about a person who's just realised that it's time to grow up that they can't be a child anymore in their little castles sitting on their thrones pretending to be the king of all things.
It's a breaking down of a self made illusion.

Ok well i think the loss if innocence explanation was spot on. but to me, this song has a different meaning (i think it's wrong though, but i can't help applying it to this sutuation):
i know this guy who is on drugs (coke specifically) and he thinks eveything is fine, he's all happy etc. and his mates all used to do it too, but they've moved on now, he hasn't.
"ON AND ON AND ON HE GOES DANCING ON THE GRAVE
OF WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS STILL ALIVE
ON AND ON AND ON HE GOES
DANCING IN MANSIONS MADE OF TWIGS
AND CASTLES MADE OF SAND"
It's the "of what he thought was still alive" bit that really gets me. it's like you just wanna say "dude, give it up!! all your friends have jobs/college now." it's like he's in a dream world or something.

meh i dunno, that's just what i get from this song. when i hear it, i imaging him just walking along with big dilated pupils, all deluded and happy. but everything around him is falling apart: no college, no work, hurting friends/family, bad health etc.

meh...

I think this song has many many ways to interpret it. To me it means someone who has just realized his entire world is a lie. He is trying to figure out who he is becuause who is was was a lie. He is trying to figure it out before it all falls apart, he needs to be able to hold onto who he is when it does fall apart. If that makes any sense. Just how I think of it.

Also, be sure to check out their new vid for Whatever It Takes.

I like the song, as well as it's meaning...

Evaluating it keenly, I realized that this is a beautiful song, with a sad ending.

I believe that this song is about a person living in pretentions and how these pretentions affected him... and how the person, fearing change, just decided to continue living in pretention.

In pretention, you may forget who you really are...
HE SAYS HE LOOKS IN THE MIRROR
AND HE CAN'T TELL ANYMORE
WHO HE REALLY IS AND WHO THEY BELIEVE HIM TO BE

...
HE CLIMBED HIS LADDER
THERE WAS NOTHING THERE
AND NOW IT'S A LONG WAY DOWN
IT'S A LONG WAY DOWN
- he was so engrossed with the immediate pleasures but then he realized these pleasures wouldn’t give him a long-term happiness that and when he wanted to start anew, he realized that it would take a great amount of effort

Fearing change... he just goes on and on living his life...
ON AND ON AND ON AND ON HE GOES ON AND ON
ON AND ON AND ON AND ON HE GOES ON AND ON

CAUSE HE LIVES INSIDE
OF FAIRYTALES AND CASTLES NOW
AND THERE'S ROOM INSIDE
FOR FALSE EXPECTATIONS AND ILLUSIONS
... this part shows that the person may still be in denial.

i agree that this song is about a child losing his innocence. the song outlines how he lives his life with "false expectations and illusions," but as he grows, he starts to see that the world he lives in isnt as pure as he once believed it to be ("he climbed his ladder, there was nothing there"). his whole childhood begins to fall apart, and with no foundation to stand on because he doesnt quite understand the world he lives in, it is "a long way down."
