Lyrics for Undone - The Sweater Song as interpreted by oofus

Undone - The Sweater Song Lyrics
I'm me
Me be
Goddamn
I am
I can
Sing and
Here me
Know me
If you want to destroy my sweater
Hold this thread as I walk away

Oh no
It go
It gone
Bye-Bye
Who I
I think
I sink
and I die
If you want to destroy my sweater
Hold this thread as I walk away
Watch me unravel I'll soon be naked
Lying on the floor, I've come undone

If you want to destroy my sweater
[I don't want to destroy your tank-top]
Hold this thread as I walk away
[Let's be friends and just walk away]
Watch me unravel I'll soon be naked
[Hate to see you lyin' there in your Superman skivvies]
Lying on the floor, I've come undone
[Lying on the floor, I've come undone]

I get a feeling of some kind of "Here I am, dig my tunes or just kick me to the curb. I'm braced for impact." But maybe that's me.

I take it as a metaphor for a relationship coming apart. Definately a great song, simple, only 3 chords, and very awesome.

I agree with mr.g, its about just wanting a ceasefire in a bad relationship, not wanting any more fights, although most of the song is pretty vague. Tied with Say it Ain't So and El Scorcho for best Weezer song

Rivers said that Undone is about: "The feeling you get when the train stops and the little guy comes knocking on your door. It was supposed to be a sad song, but everyone thinks it's hilarious."
...and it is hilarious.

haha... yeah, it is funny. I can always tell a real weezer fan by this song... if you know the whole song (and by the whole song I mean the part w/ the guys and the party or reunion or whateve it is) then you listen to weezer way too much, which makes you a REAL weezer fan because as everyone knows, there is no such thing as way too much weezer.

I don't like trying to find a deeper meaning in this song. There's too many times I've seen the thread been pulled and the sweater/shirt/shorts/skirt and what have you, come undone. haha. let me enjoy the simplicity for a moment.

these lyrics could have so many meanings. the sweater could be a metaphor for rivers' reputation, and how as he walks away, someone talks bad about him which causes him to unravel or ruin his reputation. the sweater could refer to a relationship "unraveling" as well. anyways, i don't think these lyrics are at all odd, it's a great, sad song with tons of imagery

This song is hilarious. I don't think it has any meaning at all, it was perhaps just River writing an insane song and not expecting it to be popular. And look, it's taken off.

The impression I get from this song is "This is who I am, take it or leave it" But if you don't try to get to deep it is just a goffy peppy song. I love it.

This song can mean anything you want it to. There's been times when I thought it sounded sad, and times when it made me laugh my ass off. I love it.

You know what's really weird and random? I made an English teacher who is very close to me listen to this song. She said the "watch me unravel..." thing is from Macbeth! Macbeth is saying he doesn't want to care about what he's done. So maybe that's partly what this song is about--not wanting to care about anything, just wanting to drift away from your problems. Ordinarily, I'd have thought she was insane, but since Rivers can write an entire album about an opera, I think he can do Shakespeare references. Or maybe it's just a crazy song about nothing. Either way, it's great.
