I'm a rabbit in your headlights
Scared of the spotlight
You don't come to visit
I'm stuck in this bed

Thin rubber gloves
She laughs when she's crying
She cries when she's laughing

Fat bloody fingers are sucking your soul away...
(Away... away... away...)

I'm a rabbit in your headlights
Christian suburbanite
Washed down the toilet
Money to burn

Fat bloody fingers are sucking your soul away...

If you're frightened of dyin' and you're holding on...
You'll see devils tearing your life away.
But...if you've made your peace,
Then the devila are really angels
Freeing you from the earth... from the earth... from the earth

Rotworms on the underground
Caught between stations
Butterfingers
I'm losing my patience

I'm a rabbit in your headlights
Christian suburbanite
You got money to burn....

Fat bloody fingers are sucking your soul away...
Away, away, away,
Away, away, away.

General Comment:You should all see the movie ''Les amants du pont IX'' by Leos Carax (great movie) you'll understand a little bit more what they tried to do with the video. (Yes it's the same guy, but older...)

My Opinion:The video definitely reminds me of the old "Good Samaritan" story in which a traveler lying injured by the side of the road receives no help from the purportedly good people who simply pass him by. Instead of a Jew traveling in Israel, the modern schizophrenic homeless Englishman is repeatedly struck by different high end cars probably driven by "Christian suburbanites" with no one stopping to help him. So, the whole parable is shifted from biblical times to modern day England. I view the ending as an affirmation of the sacredness of each human being, especially those outcasts that others view with fear, suspicion or disgust. While I don't think that Thom makes any claims to be specifically Christian, the video echoes Jesus' saying that "as you have done to the least of these, so you have done to me." This statement means that when people fail to defend widows and orphas, welcome the stranger, feed the hungry, clothe the naked or give shelter to the homeless, they are judged as though they failed Jesus himself.

General Comment:i agree with you rod22!

his arms are lower than a crucifix pose, below his waist. just demonstrating power with his clenched fists and closed eyes.

there is so much to say and interpret about this song and this video but i think that in some way you can connect a lot of circumstances with it.

    well...
    i just LOVE it!
it the best i've ever seen and heard!

General Comment:I really don't get the religious thing AT ALL. "Rabbit in Your Headlight" indicates something is frozen unable to move, frightened and for me its pretty obvious Thom is singing about society and how shit it is no matter what you do to try and make it better (Christian Suburbanite) it's about everyone just drifting through life, their souls slowly being sucked away by greed, hurt, pain, monotony, sadness. I might be a fucking idiot but I'm not getting the "messages all the enlightened ones have been relaying"

General Comment:I dont hear the sample from JL in the video. I think there can be a whole lot more insight into this video if someone posted what the guy is saying to himself throughout the video. Thats just me. I will say that at the end when he stops, he looks Christ-esc. I really think its along the biblical lines if anything.

General Comment:i posted this w/o reading the other postings and rog27 really put together a good and detailed picture of our subject but might be stretching it out a bit (stick to the song and not get distracted by someone else's interpretation and his details). rod22 this song is all about religion. it's one message of what all the enlightened ones have been relaying us (and there are many). supplement this song with fight club and the matrix and draw the parallels. but this song does touch on the hypocrisy of others and a critical analysis of the discontent of achieving the American Dream.

General Comment:I've heard this song and had seen the video long ago. But have never understood or better yet comprehend anything about what is being said until getting a bit wiser and more experienced. After listening to and reading the lyrics only, the song at its core is about the sample from jb's ladder. The rabbit is representative of one's soul. It avoids the attention it's getting and has no choice but to crawl in its hole. The next 4 lines could possibly refer to in my mind a trophy wife who can't stand to be in contact with anything and/or get her hands "dirty" and possibly her husband, a fat greedy and power hungry individual, who looks at others as sheep to be used in anyway they please represented by the bloody fingers like a mastermind puppeteer making you dance to his voice. Then he reiterates a point by comparing himself to the wasteful. After the sample he’s on the subway in a cart stuck between two stations. I’m not exactly sure what the stations are meant to represent but it could possibly mean life and death. But since the subway is meant to take you somewhere but not moving he’s losing his “sanity” and wraps it up by making us figure out the ending to the story or make one up.

This is just a simple interpretation and I will not connect the dots for you. If you can’t then it’s a good idea to start with the bible. I have more details and interpretations. If you agree with this, then I leave it to you to find the morals of the story and let me know.

General Comment:I think the lyrics are about what a fair few Radiohead songs are about- the malaise of modern society, going through the motions etc. I have seen the clip and think it's really good but I'm pretty sure the song has nothing to do with Jesus or anything religious.

General Comment:Wow, rog. That was single-handedly the best comment about any song's meaning that I have seen on this site. Well-done.

Obviously, I have nothing substantial to add. The song speaks for itself. It's awesome. The music actually sounds like it's suffocating the narrator (Thom). And the video is one of the most haunting vids I've ever seen. Yeah, I first watched this thing late at night. Around 2 AM. For some reason, the vid got to me. It scared the hell out of me.
