And It was def. the World War One, not the Russo-Japanese war. And The Empress did not have a sexual relationship with Rasputin.
The Czar went away to war, leaving The Czarina in charge of Russia. He basically told her everything to do, ruling Russia.
It is not believed at all that The Czarina and Rasputin had any sort of physical relationship for many reasons, but it does well in the song.
