(uh uh aaah) let me put my arms around your head
(dom do aaah) gee, it's hot, let's go to bed
Don't forget to turn on the light
Don't laugh babe, it'll be alright
(dom do aaah) pour me out another phone
(dom do aaah) i'll ring and see if your friends are home
Perhaps the strange ones in the dome
Can lend us a book we can read up alone

And try to get it on like once before
When people stared in jagger's eyes and scored
Like the video films we saw

His name was always buddy (got got do aaah aah aah)
And he'd shrug and ask to stay
She'd sigh like twig the wonder kid (got got do aaah)
And turn her face away

She's uncertain if she likes him (got got do aaah aah aah)
But she knows she really loves him
It's a crash course for the ravers (got got do aaah)
It's a drive-in saturday

Jung the foreman prayed at work (dom do aaah)
Neither hands nor limbs would burst
It's hard enough to keep formation with this fall out saturation
(bah dom bah) cursing at the astronette
(dom do aaah) who stands in steel by his cabinet
He's crashing out with sylvian
The bureau supply for ageing men
With snorting head he gazes to the shore
Once had raised a sea that raged no more
Like the video films we saw

His name was always buddy (got got do aaah aah aah)
And he'd shrug and ask to stay
She'd sigh like twig the wonder kid (got got do aaah)
And turn her face away

She's uncertain if she likes him (got got do aaah aah aah)
But she knows she really loves him
It's a crash course for the ravers (got got do aaah)
It's a drive-in saturday

His name was always buddy (got got do aaah aah aah)
And he'd shrug and ask to stay
She'd sigh like twig the wonder kid (got got do aaah)
And turn her face away

She's uncertain if she likes him (got got do aaah aah aah)
But she knows she really loves him
It's a crash course for the ravers (got got do aaah)
It's a drive-in saturday, yeah, yeah

(drive-in saturday)
(it's a drive-in saturday)
(it's a drive-in saturday)
Drive in saturday
(it's a drive-in saturday)
It's a, it's a, it's a drive in saturday
(it's a drive-in saturday)
It's a, it's a, it's a, yes sir, yes sir, yes sir, yes sir, yes sir, yes sir
(it's a drive-in saturday)
Dom do do do, dom do do do
(it's a drive-in saturday)
Dom do do da, dom do do da
???

General Comment:Hey liplex, I think the DMT has invaded your brain a bit too much... maybe you see references to your 'drug of choice' here there and everywhere where ppl see more benign meanings. I'm not sure how you saw the translation to be about hallucinogenic drugs.... Its a case of major tom to ground control methinks :)

General Comment:Seriously doubt that it gets any better than this form a songwriting POV, the song is perfect!. Someone once said david had the best voice of ANY white singer ever. I tend to agree.

General Comment:I think that Wiki has the right explanation, but there's also a slight nostalgia about when books and films were important and used by everyone.

    A line like this:
Perhaps the strange ones in the dome
Can lend us a book we can read up alone

It's like saying, those strange people (in the Library?) who still read books!

General Comment:So yeah, I bought the Aladdin Sane special edition thing and in it it said this was about the whole re-learning sex thing. As for the 'strange ones in the dome' line, apparently whilst writing this song the tour bus Bowie was on passed by a sort of dome-like thing... So, yeah

General Comment:Heavily influenced by 1950s doo-wop, "Drive-In Saturday" describes how the inhabitants of a post-apocalyptic world have forgotten how to reproduce, and need to watch old porn films to see how it's done. The narrative has been cited as an example of Bowie's "futuristic nostalgia", where the story is told from the perspective of an inhabitant of the future looking back in time.

That's from wikipedia and mostly makes sense to me. I don't really see this song as having that much of a DMT influence. Also to liplex, you smoke/vaporize, not drink, DMT.

    General Comment:That's DMT....DMT , not DMY.

General Comment:I have to agree with liplex on this one: read some Terence McKenna, the godfather of DMT usage. He was huge back in the late 60's/early 70's along with his Ivy League friends (major beatnik figureheads and that LSD guru Timothy Leary). I don't see how Bowie could have traversed the 70's and not heard, lest tried, a DMY trip. Kudos for "DMT dome", "machine-elfs", and the "rising siren upon consumption".

General Comment:What does the Jung reference mean? Does anyone get it?

I mean, I get who it's about, but not why.

General Comment:This is about an apocalyptic situation where everyone has forgotten how to...well...have sex. So, to salvage themselves, They watch old films where it happened and that's how they regained their knowledge. I love this song, because not only is it good for slow dancing, but this reminds me of a 50s 'doo-wop' song.
