Lyrics for Conventioneers as interpreted by ojms

Conventioneers Lyrics
You walked into the room
And the whole place stopped and noticed
Standing next to you
I feel hopeless and you know this
I've never been ashamed of my attraction
I'd be happy if you gave me just a fraction
As we danced
I could see
In your eyes
You and me as senior citizens in love

I followed your perfume
Out away from all the rabble
Right up to your room
For a drink and travel Scrabble
You, stationed in the warm glow of the T.V.
Too patient as I'm playing L-O-V-E
And we laugh...
And we laugh...
And we laugh...
And we have to
Or we'll end up in the bath

Now we're in the bath
I'm already thinking marriage
I know that in the past
It was something I'd disparage
You turned down all the lights
I lit the candles
We rolled around in robes and hotel sandals
Then you slept
And I dressed
And I left
And I guess I'll see you Monday, like before

Before all the fireworks exploded
Our conversations were so loaded
Innuendo flying
Now what can we say?
"Have a nice day
"Looks like rain today..."
"What'd you say?"
"Doesn't matter anyway..."

Now I'm in a cab
Heading back to my apartment
Everything is drab
And I wish it never started
Now I've landed in this awkward situation
How can I just avoid a conversation?
So I'll wait
Come in late
It'd be great
If you transferred out of state...

What the heck is wrong with everyone??? This is one of the best songs ever!! I guess it doesn't have double meanings and things like that, but it's such a cool song!

This song is pretty awesome. You don't hear a lot of regretful songs about one night stands.

i'm sort of surprised no tv show has used this song in some sort of love scene. it's perfect for that kind of thing. Warm, dimly lit, quietly elegant. gorgeous

I don't really think this is a regretful song about a one night stand, but maybe some kind of "forbidden romance" type thing, like a work office relationship. They were co-workers, but he always had an attraction to her, and then it turned into more, but now it's awkward seeing each other at work.
I love this song, like pumkinhed said, it's dimly lit, and quietly elegant.

Yeah, I agree with the rainbow diva. It's about someone who is in love with a coworker, they sleep together and now they feel uncomfortable around each other. I really like the part about how they're "conversations were so loaded", meaning before they enjoyed talking to each other, but now they just talk about everyday boring stuff because they aren't comfortable around each other.

A great song. It's sad that BNL haven't had much success here in Australia. Hopefully they'll release another album.

what the song means to me, yeah, it's about two co-workers who sleep together during a business convention... and later, one of the two has regrets because things just become strange afterwards.

it's got such a sexy groove!

I believe this is the story of two co-workers (as established in the previous comments) engaged in a one night stand. The narrator of the song is apparently interested in taking the relationship further, but the other figure does not wish to. ("I've never been ashamed of my attraction / I'd be happy if you gave me just a fraction")

"Before all the fireworks exploded / Our conversations were so loaded, innuendo flying / Now what can we say?"
There must have been a big lead up to the one night stand, with lots of flirtation between the two people, but afterwards it's just an awkward situation. So much so, that the narrator of the song wishes his partner would be transferred out of state.

One of my favorites off of Maroon. It's got a real subtle romantic feeling to it.

It's simple. He likes her. They had sex. Now it's awkward.

Hmm, pretty general lyrics. I think that a man and his coworker went on a business trip together with the company. They went to a party in the evening, and went back to their hotel. They ended up in one of their rooms, the have sex, and return home. But the next time they see each other it becomes very awkward and they can't speak to each other the same way that they used to. Instead of sexual innuendos, they talk about the weather.
