Lyrics for Pinch Me as interpreted by ojms

Pinch Me Lyrics
It's the perfect time of year
Somewhere far away from here
I feel fine enough I guess
Considering everything's a mess
There's a restaurant down the street
Where hungry people like to eat
I could walk, but I'll just drive
It's colder than it looks outside

It's like a dream you try to remember but it's gone, then you
Try to scream but it only comes out as a yawn when you
Try to see the world beyond your front door
Take your time cos the way I rhyme's gonna make you smile when you
Realize that a guy my size might take a while just to
Try to figure out what all this is for

It's the perfect time of day
To throw all your cares away
Put the sprinkler on the lawn
And run through with my gym shorts on
Take a drink right from the hose
And change into some dryer clothes
Climb the stairs up to my room
Sleep away the afternoon

It's like a dream you try to remember but it's gone, then you
Try to scream but it only comes out as a yawn when you
Try to see the world beyond your front door
Take your time cos the way I rhyme's gonna make you smile when you
Realize that a guy my size might take a while just to
Try to figure out what all this is for

Pinch me, pinch me
'Cause I'm still asleep
Please God, tell me
That I'm still asleep

On an evening such as this
It's hard to tell if I exist
Pack the car and leave this town
You'll notice that I'm not around
I could hide out under there
I just made you say underwear
I could leave but I'll just stay
All my stuff's here anyway

It's like a dream you try to remember but it's gone, then you
Try to scream but it only comes out as a yawn when you
Try to see the world beyond your front door
Take your time cos the way I rhyme's gonna make you smile when you
Realize that a guy my size might take a while just to
Try to figure out what all this is for

Try to figure out what all this is for
Try to see the world beyond your front door
Try to figure out what all this is for

I agree with what 90 % of you here said : The song is definitely about the apathy in going over routine in suburbia and feeling slightly depressed.

I want to add one thing. I think the song ended kind of positive way with the line :

I could leave but I'll just stay
All my stuff's here anyway

I'm probably affected by the music video but that line there, seems to say " You know, my life sucks but I'll make a best of it."

Like, the guy in the song knows he's not going to make a dramatic change in his life but he's coming to term with his life and learning accept his lot and try to make a best of it.

This song for me reminds me of my relationship everything is so gret when I'm with my boyfriend everything is simple and easy like the words in the song and when I try to think about what good things I must have done to deserve him in my life its more like the chorus, more complicated and deep. But really I didn't do anything, sometimes amazing people come in to your life for no reason at all :)

It's about understanding yourself and asking big questions about the world, but then realizing how life doesn't need to be complex and you don't need to understand everything to enjoy it.

this song is about reminiscing on the past and how great things once were. it's about love, being a kid, and how innocent things once were. How great it is to have such a dream...when you were young, and life's obstacles were as difficult as running through the sprinkler with your gym shorts on.

pinch me!

because life isn't that simple...and life really sucks...but this song gives me hope.

I think that in the last part of the song the person gets back to normal by taking a step back and cracking jokes about what he was thinking. "Hey, I was going to leave because I was sad about being lazy, but I'm too lazy to leave, ha ha" Sorry if that was a bit confusing...

its about laughing it off.
its about getting the fuck over it.

its about sucking it up and moving on with your life while having a good time.

basically...

shit happens, but life goes on.

I like this one a lot... kinda Beatlesque, and that's cool by me.

Anyway, I think it's about a guy whose life sucks, and he's trying to figure out why, more or less.

i think this song is about a guy trying to just figure out his life.

"when you try to see the world beyond your front door"

I love this part...reminds me of the semester I spent abroad and was experiencing different ways of thinking. I got to do a lot of growing.

I think it's awesome.
It just represents one of those crummy days you have, but it still makes you laugh.
It's up and down like a day or life is.
It just works.

This is why I only listen to my fave band when I'm crying my eyes out... Because the most depressing lyrics are set to the happiest music.

I swear, these guys could write a song about committing suicide and it would still put everyone in a good mood.

I agree with the idea that it's about depression. This is by far my favorite BNL song. Even though the lyrics and meaning are sad, and even though I agree/think almost everything said in this song, this song still never fails to put me in a good mood. So kudos, BNL.

I love the lines;

"I feel fine enough I guess,
Considering everything's a mess."
&
"I could leave but I'll just stay,
All my stuff's here anyway."

Amazing. :]

I've had times where I am just sitting there, not doing anything, not thinking about anything in particular, and a feeling washes over me that I can't begin to describe. I feel like I'm dreaming. I don't like it. And I think that this is what the song's about. With some humor thrown in there for good measure.

This song is about someone said but they can't understand why. They just go through life on autopilot. My favorite line is "it's like a dream you try to remember but it's gone" because you're trying to grasp happiness again, but you can't seem to remember how. Great song.

I love this song.
It's about being so depressed, but too apathetic to do anything about it. Perfect.

This is a great song... the lyrics are much deeper than one would guess based on face value. That's BNL's style.

just got back from seeing the Ladies in concert. This is the most upbeat song about chronic depression i've ever heard. Ladies really know how to entertain and have fun--hell they are one fun one band

Put the sprinkler on the lawn/
And run through with no clothing on/
Take a drink right from the hose/
And change into my sister's clothes/

I love this song--the music and the lyrics are really in sync. It's about trying to get out of the rut of everyday life, but just not having the motivation to do it. It's like living in a half-conscious dream world--you really try to care, but you just can't. I think most of us live like this. "I could walk, but I'll just drive. It's colder than it looks outside" once again, failing to make even the smallest change in habits. Then at the end, talking about getting out and really shaking things up, almost doing it, but then saying forget it (I could leave but I'll just stay. All my stuff's here anyway). Great job capturing the suffocating blahse of everyday life.

Dear blueowl92 ,

just thought I'd let you know that you became one of those people that you hate. You just wasted two minutes of my life and said absolutely nothing about the song, I hope you're happy, I think that my IQ actually dropped several points while reading your post.

moving on, I thought that this song was really just supposed to be funny when I first heard it. I had to listen to it several times to actually get what it was supposed to be about, that doesn't usually happen to me, did this happen to anyone else?
