I linger in the doorway
Of alarm clocks screaming monsters calling my name
Let me stay
Where the wind will whisper to me
Where the raindrops as they're falling tell a story

In my field of paper flowers
And candy clouds of lullaby
I lie inside myself for hours
And watch my purple sky fly over me

Don't say I'm out of touch
With this rampant chaos your reality
I know well what lies beyond my sleeping refuge
The nightmare I built my own world to escape

In my field of paper flowers
And candy clouds of lullaby
I lie inside myself for hours
And watch my purple sky fly over me

Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming
Cannot cease for the fear of silent nights
Oh how I long for the deep sleep dreaming
The goddess of imaginary light

In my field of paper flowers
And candy clouds of lullaby
I lie inside myself for hours
And watch my purple sky fly over me

    Song Meaning

Hiding from an abusive world. I don't believe that she ever really dreams in the lyrics, per se. I think that she is only able to feebly block out the rest of the world although it comes crashing down no matter what she does (the chorus's loudness in contrast to the verses and bridges). "Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming, cannot cease for the fear of silent nights" - If she was able to build her own world away from the one that antagonizes her, wouldn't she not be screaming? That's just my thought on this.

    My Interpretation

I think this means that she would rather be thinking in this imaginary world rather than having to deal with this cruel and vicious world we live in today

i love this song . i see it's about day dreaming & dreaming ( in your sleeping) that take you away from the hectic chaotic world you live in to a beautiful world . my favorite lines are : "if you need to leave the world you live in" "lay your head down and stay awhile" "though you may not remember dreaming" "something waits for you to breathe again" i see they mean that if you need to get away from the busy world you live in , all you have to do is just lay your head on the pillow and start dreaming , maybe when you wake up you won't remember what you dreamt but surely you will dream (something waits for you to dream again) : something is waiting for you to sleep in order to make it alive again with your dreams.

humm just so youall know, this version of the song is not on the fallen cd. this is the version that is hard to get ahold of. it is on the album named Origin. personally i like thisone much better. the album however is real hard to come across. evanescence has alot of music out before the fallen album.

Evanescence plays secular music to a secular crowd. The bassist, Moody, stated his brush with Christianity was a "childish folly" or something along those lines. The band started (as I hear it) opening up at Christian shows and they labled a Christian abdn without anyone reading the lyrics. While some of the songs have a spiritual base, they are secular for the secular crowd. Too abd. Imagine if htey took their faith all the way...wow.

Love this song, probably one of my favorites of all of theirs. To the meaning... Actually, yes, it is pretty self-explanatory. The way I see it is that she doesn't want to live in reality and just needs a refuge, whether she has to make it up or not. And for the first time (out of all of their songs) I can actually really relate to this song. It's so amazing... <3

The song lyric gave me these feelings: I do think that the lyric composer made some christian beliefs held within the song. But you can disagree with me.

I linger in the doorway (knocking on the heaven door)
of alarmclock screaming monsters calling my name
let me stay...where the wind will whisper to me (spirits can speak thru the wind)
where the raindrops as they're falling tell a story (the story, the rain, implied Christ, HIS STORY)

if you need to leave the world you live in (we r just a traveler in this world)
lay your head down and stay awhile
though you may not remember dreaming (life is just like a dream)
something waits for you to breathe again (there is life after death)

in my field of paper flowers
    and candy clouds of lullaby
i lie inside myself for hours
and watch my purple sky fly over me

Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
