Golden lights displaying your name
Golden lights it's a terrible shame
But oh my darling
Why did you change?

Boy in a million, idol, a big star
I didn't tell you how great you were
I didn't grovel and scream
And rip your brand new jacket at the seams

You made a record, they liked your singing
All of a sudden the phone stops ringing
Ah ... I never thought that you would let
The glory make you forget

Golden lights displaying your name
Golden lights it's a terrible shame
But oh my darling
Why did you change?

Top ten idol, king of your age
Who do you turn to when you're backstage?
Don't you remember you once knew a girl
You loved her more than the world

Is life always like this, brother?
Good for one side but bad for another
I must put you behind me tonight
'Cause you belong to the lights

Those golden lights displaying your name
Golden lights it's a terrible shame
But oh my darling
Why did you change?

Oh, oh my darling
Why?
Why did you change?

Oh...

General Comment:lyrically, its what u would expect from the morrissey, just simpler... and forgive me if i'm wrong, but this is a cover of a female artists 60's song.... Morrissey's idols were women like Sandy Shaw etc... most bands have an album, of which u lyk to listen to about half the songs.... to see people calling this song shit just because it isn't smith lyk is pathetic,

besides, s'not to bad a song anyway; rounds off 'the world won't listen' rather nicely and with a lovely ironic twist to the whole album

General Comment:I fucking loathe this piece of shit track with a passion. Judging by this terrible song, it's clear why The Smiths were never really a covers band.

General Comment:I like this song, even though Morrissey and Marr both say it's the Smiths' worst song. Although my favorite is "Shoplifters", so I suppose I'm redeemed somewhat.

Still kind of cute, though. Put it beside "Paint A Vulgar Picture".

General Comment:I think Morrissey recorded this song to piss off smiths fans that think he should be serious all the time. It's a bad song, but kind of fun. I think that's the point.
