You have so many opportunities I never had
Don't push so hard nothing is ever easy
And this talent that you take for granted
Its a gift from god
Don't pass tit up
Nothing is ever easy
Are you ready to work real hard
Are you tired its just the start
Listen to me son ill take you far
You can call it anything you want the fact remains the same
I never got to be your Fred Astaire
You can lie to yourself and all your friends and pretend that you don't care
But circumstance gets in the way
Heel, toe, heel, toe, side to side again,
Gonna get it right
Don't push so hard,
Nothing is ever easy
Don't forget your please and thank you's,
Don't forget to smile
Don't pass this up,
Nothing is ever easy
Are you ready to work real hard
Are you tired its just the start
Listen to me son ill take you far (take you far)
You can call it anything you want
The fact remains the same
I never got to be your Fred Astaire
You can lie to yourself and all your friends
Pretend that you don't care
But circumstance gets in the way
Their pushing these children for all the wrong reasons
So far man you're crushing down their spirits
Suffocate, emancipate, turn their backs and walk away eventually eventually
Suffocate, emancipate, turn their backs and walk away eventually eventually
Seeking seeking,oh one of these one of these
Seeking seeking,oh one of these one of these PATHS
You're wasting time, I call it living
To the world what are you giving
You're wasting time, I call it living
To the world what are you giving
You're wasting time

General Comment:This song isnt about dancing its a song written to Stubhys mom. Adam originally wanted the lyrics to say "i never got to be you heroin" but Stubhy felt like choosin the icon like Fred Astaire would be a better fit to match the meaning of the song. It has nothing really to do about dancing its just a metaphor, for being the best kid he could be to his mom, just like Fred Astaire was the best dancer out there.

General Comment:this song is not about dancing. it's about the pressures stubhy (lead singer/writer) felt from his parents and how he was never able to live up to what they wanted him to be. fred astaire was one of the mst well known entertainers in American history, and stubhy has used him as a model of what his parents wanted him to be... perfection. the lines "I never got to be your Fred Astaire" express the fact he was never able to be the perfect child his parents wanted.

General Comment:I think it's using the dancing theme as a metaphor for a much broader idea.

There are diffrent cuts of this song. The one I hear on the radio doesn't match the one that I have on their CD. Don't ask me why.

General Comment:IN Boston radio stations edited this song to make it seem like it was about a relationship. They mad it seem like it was a reference to fred astaire and ginger rogers. Like the guy singing wanted the girl but he would never be good enough. They cut out alot of it to do it.
