Y'know that I want your loving
But my logic tells me that it ain't never gonna happen
And then my defenses say I didn't want it anyway
But you know sometimes I'm a liar
Could you ever want me to love you?
Could you ever want me to care?
Disregard my nervousness
Please ignore my vacant stares
Cause just what I've been through
Is nothing like where I'm going to
Give me some sign to pursue a promise
And your unhappi... ness is only a guess

Do you know what it's like to hate
When it's way down deep inside?
Oh God, I hate what's been done to my life
I could rule the pain
I could rule the night
Or would it ruin my salvation?
Ruin my mind, rule your pains
Rulers of the night
Ruin your salvation
Ruin your minds

You know that I want your loving
But Mr. Logic, Mr. Logic tells me it ain't never gonna happen
And then my defenses say well, I didn't want it anyway
But you know, sometimes I'm a liar
Could you ever want me to love you?
Could you ever want me to care?
Disregard my nervousness
Please ignore my vacant stares
Just what I've been through
Is nothing like where I'm going to
Give me some sign to pursue a promise
And your unhappi... ness is only a guess

Like most (or all?) of the songs on their first album, this song brings us back to the high school days, all the frustration, all the anger, and the wish to be loved. This is like a document to the teenage days of most of the people I know, as we mostly had a time in our lives when we were deeply unhappy with ourselves - wishing to be loved by someone, but our logic told us it was never gonna happen. And hating - not someone in particular, but perhaps the allmighty himself, for making our lives miserable.

Most of the people go through this stage unhurt, but the sensation, and the memories remain forever - strangely enough, we tend to remember these days as "nice days, good days" ... even though back then we would give anything to escape and get older... This song really has great lyrics, but you have to relate to it to get it completely. At least, that's how I feel about it - I have been listening to this song for almost 20 years now, it never fails to touch me deeply.

Wha? I thought it was, "And you're unhappy. This is only a guess."

Anyway, this song, story of my life. My pathetic teenage life.

"Cause just what I've been through is nothing like where I'm going to..."

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
