If you want to open the hole
Just put your head down and go
Step beside the piece of circumstance
Got to wash away the taste of evidence

Wash it away
(Evidence...got a taste of evidence)

I didn't feel a thing
It didn't mean a thing
Look in the eye and testify;
I didn't feel a thing

Anything you say, we know you're guilty
Hands above your head and you won't even feel me

You won't feel me

    General Comment:this is a concept album about going to prison. in this song the character is being sentanced. it is an unfair trial where the evidence is being washed away. the character feels like hes being raped by the justice system and it uses that as a powerful metaphor for the unfair trial.

    If you want to open the hole
    Just put your head down and go
    Step beside the piece of circumstance
    Got to wash away the taste of evidence

    telling them that basicallly if you want to abuse me and rape me then go ahead and do it. dont forget to get rid of the evidence that proved i was innocent.

    Wash it away
    (Evidence...got a taste of evidence)

    saying they have to get rid of the taste of evidence as a metaphor for the guilt they feel for putting him away unfairly. the guilt will continue to eat away at them and they will want to wash it away .

    I didn't feel a thing
    It didn't mean a thing
    Look in the eye and testify;
    I didn't feel a thing

    he is saying they will not break him and take away his sanity and pride even if they sentance him unfairly. thats why he says i didnt feel a thing. he is trying to prove their rape didnt hurt. they are telling him to just testify and say he did it.

    Anything you say, we know you're guilty
    Hands above your head and you won't even feel me

    they dont even care what he has to say. they have already decided he is guilty.
    You won't feel me

    General Comment:new ideas on this song: Define Evidence... lyrics are a play.... nobody is right here, that is evidence. My take is simply having clarity on something and dismissing it, moving on.. rejection.

    My Interpretation:This song to me sounds like Mike is making a dig back at Roddy Bottum (who came out publicly as homosexual in 93) in retaliation for the "be aggressive" lyrics which bottum wrote. From wikipedia : "Bottum has said in interviews that he wrote the song largely as a joke at Mike Patton's expense, enjoying the potential humiliation a straight vocalist would subject himself to onstage purposely wrote so mike a straight guy would be humiliated singing them."

    Mike wrote the lyrics to evidence. He obviously figured out by now Roddys intention with be aggressive. Mike sings the first line "If you want to open the hole" but in actuality he sings it as "If you want an open hole - just put your head down and go" Kwing the situation this could be interpreted as... If u want to be gay Roddy and get fucked in the ass(have an open hole) you better leave the band "just put your head down and go", or its your turn now to suck dick bitch and be publicly humiliated and or both meanings at the same time.
    In the video mike makes a motion of swinging a bat which could be reference to billy "batting for the other team" a well known phrase for someone thats gay and or mike hitting it out of the park with this payback song or both meanings at the same time.
    Also Mike purposefully sings part of the song in a voice very similar to george michael who at one stage in his music career with wham was considered straight but later came out as gay. I could go on about the rest of the songs lyrics and video interpretation but i'd be here ages... Butt the bottum line is the meaning and purpose to this song is definitely a dig at billys sexuality and payback for the "be aggressive" lyrics.

    General Comment:I think it's from the rape victims perspective, and that she's addressing the rapist directly

    General Comment:I also think it's about cheating, but I've also always had another interpretation: someone was hired to do something that no one is supposed to find out, like killing someone, or having sex for money, etc, and (s)he's trying to be cold-blooded about it, but in the end (s)he does feel guilty about it.

    General Comment:Look people!!!! First of all, the song is about cheating!!!! The opening lines: "If you want to open the hole, just put your head down and go" is obviously about oral sex. Maybe in this specific relationship that's how the sex is usually initiated. The lines: "Gotta wash away the taste of evidence" They prob don't use a condom when they have sex and suddenly he can taste it!!!! Unfortunately this happened to me!!! There is his "evidence" of infidelity. And what does any cheater say when caught?? "I didn't feel a thing! It didn't mean a thing" !! The second verse is really just his insecurity. All this sex WE had with each other and she never even felt it. "you won't feel me"

    General Comment:it seems to me that this song is about a man who rapes a woman and then performs oral sex in order to remove what may be forensic evidence in the crime. seems kind of obvious to me......
