Lyrics for For What Reason as interpreted by weezerific:cutlery

For What Reason Lyrics
This won't be the last you'll hear from me: it's just the start
I hope that he keeps you up for weeks like you did to me
I will hold a candle up to you to singe your skin
Brace yourself: I'm bent with bitterness
We can’t foresee

When your apologies fail to ring true
So slick with that sarcastic slew
Of phrases like "I thought you knew"
While keeping me in hot pursuit

Tracing the plot finds
Skin touching skin
Absence follows

In the end I win every time
This ink remains
Sour tastes prevail as you play back the tape machine

When your apologies fail to ring true
So slick with that sarcastic slew
Of phrases like "I thought you knew"
While keeping me in such hot pursuit

Tracing the plot finds
Skin touching skin
Absence follows

This was my first Death Cab Song---and it shows up on almost every best of and mix I make. The bass line, the vocal melody--everything about this band makes me happy.

I'm with Eli--this is quite possibly the best song they've written....regardless of it's downer subject matter....

I've seen death cab in concert 2 times and this is one of the best songs i've ever heard live. I saw them right after "we have the facts and we're voting yes" was released in 2000 in Tempe, Arizona and also on Halloween in 2002 in Baltimore, Maryland. Ben Gibbard (lead) and Nick Harmer (bass) are fabulous. Nick was sick the night in Baltimore, so at the end of the show, Ben came out and did solos. AMAZING. I can't wait until I get to see them live again. I just hope they don't get TOO big because they'll turn into another Jimmy Eat World after Bleed American was released. People were moshing at one of their concerts I went to the summer that album was released... Those people hadn't even heard of "Clarity." Anyway, I would highly recommend getting their EP, it's great. yes... i love death cab.

Death Cab played with The Prom in Baltimore too... they're pretty good. I would recommend getting some of their cds too. They are sort of like Ben Folds (in a good way) with the piano and all.

In reference to my last entry, i just wanted to say that my saying "they are like ben folds" was referring to the band "the prom" that played with death cab the second time i saw them. they're really good. A band that is similar to death cab is called "the postal service." ben gibbard from death cab plays the drums and the guitar in that band, they're reallllllly good. my brother just saw them in concert on Tues. night, he said they're good live, and i am supposed to see them on April 17.

Best line of this song is when he says " In the end I win every time as ink remains " Its a metaphor of our life being the jar of ink, and we have the pen. We can write our destiny and our fate untill the ink is gone or it all dries up and we die.

Or is it because he always gets the last word in, because he can write a song about it? The ink remains and we all side with Ben because we only get his side of the story.

This is a great song. The bitterness in the lyrics and the drums and bass flow together perfectly. I love The Postal Service, mnichols. "Such Great Heights" is a stellar song.

x awful eifel x: The song's lyrics are pretty obviously about a relationship that left the narrator hurt and full of disdain for his ex. The girl may have possibly cheated on him, since the narrator mentions a "he".

in response to mnichols0630: the postal service...ben gibbard does not play the guitar and drums...chris walla of dcfc does. maybe live ben might play, but when recording, chris writes the guitar and drum parts.

now about this song: it's one of my favorites, because it is such an enigma. parts are so subtle, but it is so straightforward at the same time. how much more clear can "i shouldve given you a reason to stay" be? not much.

so now, about this song. haha. "brace yourself: i'm bent with bitterness" is an amazing line, and i think it needs no explanation.
