  General Comment:Ampedup45 makes a lot of sense.
  The way he sings this song doesn't make me think he just wants to hear a pretty girl sing to him because he likes her. If that's what he was going for, then he sure doesn't know how to write a love song and Conor O'Berst knows how to write every type of song beautifully.

  General Comment:wow, i can't believe that NO ONE mentioned how this song relates to death. maybe its because a good friend of mine just passed away, but i believe that this song is about that feeling about looking at a body inside an open casket and just wanting so badly to hear them say something...or in this case, maybe emily was a girl who used to sing? and he just desperately wants to hear her sing again. (which is why he basically screams the song.) i think that this song describes that feeling so perfectly.
