Lyrics for The Last Great Punk Rock Song as interpreted by ScreamingInfidelity

The Last Great Punk Rock Song Lyrics
It’s the last time I’ll fight the wrongs, I’ll sing about the girls who left me
The last great punk rock song before I unspike my hair and carry on
And I will wail about anarchy, drums will blare in rhythmic harmony
Anti establishment just gets me nowhere fast
And it’s the last great time I’ll try
Please give me a reason not to cry
And it’s the last great punk rock song
I hope you’ll listen to me when I won’t carry on
I have a few songs about remorse, and I sing until my voice gets hoarse
But most are about girl problems
Until I put down my strat
And stop acting dumb

I agree with vandalgroupie...I'm sick of how people still have an idea of what "punk" should be and try and live up to that idea..be yourself you fuckin morons

but yeah essentially I think this song is about how say anything don't "wail about anarchy" because "Anti establishment gets [them] nowhere fast", Max sticks to writing songs which he can relate to and which he feels strongly about, for example his "girl problems", cuz that's what he's good at.

I could be wrong...I'm not particularly big on Say Anything so feel free to correct me

Sounds like he's finally giving up on fooling himself that Anti-Flag's a good band.
He gives up on the foolish and overly-simple ideals that mark a lot of punk music. He's growing up, finally admitting that the values and morals and whatnot that he tried to believe in just aren't true. At the same time, he's got an appreciation for these ideals.

I'm not sure how old any of the above posters are, but in the world I live in, you don't grow out of activism and grow into a world of girl problems. There is a lot of generalizations in this thread, and it especially irks me to hear someone say that "foolish and overly-simple ideals ...mark a lot of punk music". Clearly you have strayed from punk music and into some sort of wanna-be realm like..I don't even know what bands those are, I've never heard them. Say Anything are not punk; post punk maybe, but not punk. That doesnt mean that a lot of Max's influences weren't punkand I think this song is his way of recognizing that his message is relatively shallow when put in the context of his influences. This song may be about growing up, and getting over a phase, but I don't think it's meant to disparage that phase, e.g. : his reference to "acting dumb", I think that is just him being self depricating and moving away from trying to be a die-hard punk. I don't think he's calling die-hard punks dumb.

Do any of you have brains???

It's making fun of punks.

Get over yourselves.

Stop reading into the lyrics.

It is literal, all in front of your face.

Go overanalyze a different song.

sounds like he's making fun of emo music to me, not punk.....he says its going to be the last great punk rock song before he unspikes his hair & starts singing about girls leaving him & girl problems. he says "give me a reason not to cry"....like he's turning emo lol.

sounds like he's making fun of the whiny emo music about girls who have left the boys & stuff....so he's saying this is going to be the last great punk rock song before he turns emo....

idk, thats just what i got from the song...

You guys are all fucking retarded.

This song is so sarcastic it's ridiculous.

Listen to his voice, he's blatantly making fun of people who sing like Tom Delonge.

this is an early song by say anything.
they have later on rejected any music pre-"...is a real boy", and regarded it as not "respectable" music (in a kind of sarcastic totally Bemis way.) Anyway if you wanna read into say anything a little bit and how they see their music check out the bio max bemis has written about the band at their website: http://www.sayanythingmusic.com/biography

anyway I like this song, and in my opinion it's really obvious that this song isn't that serious at all.
who the fuck cares anyway?
