i think this about being in a relationship that is supposed to make you happier but just brings you down instead. getting stuck in the routine of a relationship that isn't going anywhere

i think its about learning to cope with the pain of one failed relationship after another to the point of wanting the familiarity of loneliness:
Here comes the sadness that I miss so much
That lonely aching comes from every touch
I’ve grown accustomed to the grays and blacks
Because they’re always coming back

And that you become "colorblind" to happiness because youre always surrounded by "grays and blacks". The rainbow symbolizes the colors that he's not seeing.

But the main point of this I think is how, along with the loneliness and pain, hes always complaining to the people around him. After awhile they get sick of his constant "bitching" and dont want to be around him. He gets bitter thinking it is because they just can't handle true pain. Basically this whole message is throughout the song.

god i love this song
i can relate to it so much

"Because you could have be the one
To make it all disappear."
i love this line
it has so much pain in it

when i compare this to my life, it's saying that he loves someone very much and she helped him get through all of these tough times. she didnt have to do much, but just being there and having her there made his life a whole hell of a lot easier. when she's gone, his life is a complete mess and he can't find the happiness in anything anymore.

It's probably about an emotional masochist who's life is so screwed up and boring and lame, that he's beginning to enjoy the pain he's feeling. He doesn't want to escape it, so everytime something good comes along, he lets it go. Not saying anything good comes along anyway, but if it ever does, "The Rainbow" disappears.

this song is serious and emotional. but i dont think its about relationships. i think its about slipping in and out of depression over and over again. "here comes the sadness that i miss so much" meaning hes becoming depressed again. And the rainbows that he cant see represent that he cant remember anymore what its like to be happy. But theres one person who instigates this sadness, and that person is the only one who can stop it "because you could have been the one, to make it all disappear" meaning that person is the only one who can fix it


anyway great say anything song, i seem to enjoy baseball and all their earlier demos more than their new stuff, not saying that IDOTG wasnt a great cd, it was but i like their old stuff more
