I want to see what people saw
I want to feel like I felt before
I want to see the kingdom come
I want to feel forever young
I want to sing
To sing my song
I want to live in a world where I belong
I want to live
I will survive
And I believe that it won't be very long

If we turn, turn, turn, turn, turn
Then we might learn
So where's the stars?
Up in the sky
And what's the moon?
A big balloon
We'll never know unless we grow
There's so much world outside the door

I want to sing
To sing my song
I want to live in a world where I'll be strong
I want to live
I will survive
And I believe that it won't be very long

If we turn, turn, turn, turn
And if we turn, turn, turn, turn
Then we might learn
Turn, turn, turn, turn
Turn, turn, turn
And if we turn, turn, turn, turn
Then we might learn
Learn to turn

General Comment:Hey guys. I wrote a detailed analysis of this song on my site, more than I could easily summarize here:

Let me know what you think!

My Interpretation:i think i agree with some bits that people have said, but for me the clue is at the end of the video. Fran is performing a great feat of strength for his own benefit, hence the reference to 'I' throughout the song. however, at the end of the video there's someone who really needs his help but he hasn't the strngth to assist. Thus the song title....maybe if we all 'turned' and changed certain ways such as being self centered, and put more effort to helping those who need it. Just a thought tho.

General Comment:I am one of Jehovahs Witnesses and this song is exactly what we believe. Everytime I here I hear it it makes me cry because I hope for a better world soon.

General Comment:Philosophically I'm sure this song has something to do with turning dreams into reality or looking at things a new way, but whenever I listen to it, I have to think it's sort of about dancing, especially because of the line, "If we turn, turn, turn, we might learn." Because when you dance with a partner, you have to learn how to work together, so I always like to think the song was inspired by that.

i might not be thinking outside the box here, but i get the impression it's talking about there being so much to learn and too little time to learn it in - the particular verse that gives that impression is
    So where's the stars ?
    Up in the sky
    And what's the moon ?
    A big balloon
We'll never know unless we grow
There's so much world outside the door
that's how i interpret it anyway

I agree with that; that's how I interpreted it too.

General Comment:I agree with Final straw when they say that it's about going against things. This song was featured in Feast Of Love starring Selma Blair and in one of the scenes, this song was dedicated to her beginning relationship with a woman even though she's married. So you can probably figure that one out for yourselves.

General Comment:i agree with the above poster ^^ i think it's speaking for the reward in the world around us. sort of like a free-spirited perspective towards life. most of us are caught up in petty details and busy jobs, and become less&less awed by our environment and our own lives. we lose that zest and that passion for it as we get into routines. this song is about a guy whose tired of being tired. he wants to go back to living.
'turn' is probably referring to turning your back to things you are used to, or a stereotypical mentality about how life should be led ("and if you turn turn turn you might learn") - perhaps if you 'mentally' switch your emotional state in the opposite direction you'll be able to walk in someone elses shoes and appreciate everything in a completely new & different way. amazing song!

General Comment:I think its about going against things. not necesarily in a bad way. but turn and look at what things are looking at them through your own eyes not everyone elses eg b your own person. encouraging people to do what they want and not go with the norm
