Lyrics for Fistful Of Steel as interpreted by piesupreme

Fistful Of Steel Lyrics
Huh!
Check it...uggh!
Silence
Something about silence makes me sick
'Cause silence can be violent
Sorta like a slit wrist

If the vibe was suicide
Then you would push da button
But if ya bowin' down
Then let me do the cuttin'

Some speak the sounds
But speak in silent voices
Like radio is silent
Though it fills the air with noises
Its transmissions bring submission
As ya mold to the unreal
And mad boy grips the microphone
Wit' a fistful of steel
Yeah...and mad mad boy grips the microphone
Wit' a fistful of steel

Wit' a fistful of steel
('Cause I know the power of the question)
Wit' a fistful of steel
Wit' a fistful of steel
(And I won't stop 'cause I know the power of the question)

It's time to flow like the fluid in ya veins
If ya will it, I will spill it
And ya out just as quick as ya came
Not a silent one
But a defiant one
Never a normal one
'Cause I'm the bastard son
With the visions of the move
Vocals not to soothe
But to ignite and put in flight
My sense of militance
Groovin', playin' this game called survival
The status, the elite, the enemy, the rival
The silent sheep slippin', riffin', trippin'
Give ya a glimpse of the reality I'm grippin'
Steppin' into the jam and I'm slammin' like Shaquille
Mad boy grips the microphone
Wit' a fistful of steel
Yeah...and mad boy grips the microphone
Wit' a fistful of steel

Wit' a fistful of steel
('Cause I know the power of the question)
Wit' a fistful of steel
Wit' a fistful of steel
(And I won't stop 'cause I know the power of the question)

Ahh shit

And I won't stop 'cause I know the power of the question

And if the vibe was suicide
Then you would push da button
But if ya bowin' down
Then let me do the cuttin`

Yeah!
Come on!

A .44 full of bullets
Face full of pale
Eyes full of empty
A stare full of nails
The roulette ball rolls alone on the wheel
A mind full of fire
And a fistful of steel

And if the vibe was suicide
Then you would push da button
But if ya bowin' down
Then let me do the cuttin'

Yeah! Wit' a fistful of steel!
Come on!
Uggh!
Wit' a fistful of steel!
Uggh!

I take the line's about silence to mean that Silence is sickening because whilst everything is silent, that means no-one is voicing an opinion. Everyone is conforming to the everyday things that the system presents us with. This may not be correct but that's what I take from it.

Sevenfeetdeep is completely correct. The intro to this is Morello's BEST apart from Wake Up. Rock on! Raise your fist and resist! Etc...

sevenfeetdeep is right. This song is about falling in line and not questioning authority. I believe that the line "the silent sheep" refers to Animal Farm by George Orwell. The sheep were ignorant and followed to pigs rule without question. "cuase' i know the power of a question" refers to the fact that everyone's voice counts and they should not be afraid to use it. So in short don't authority without questioning it.

"And if the vibe was suicide
Then you would push da button
But if ya bowin' down
Then let me do the cuttin'"

I think that what he is saying here is that if everyone else was committing suicide, then you (the general public) would follow them and "push da button". I feel that in the last two lines Zach is saying how he is not going to follow the crowd just for the sake of following the crowd, "then let me do the cuttin'" - he's saying that he'll do it whether or not other people are doing it or approve of it.

i think if youre bowin down it means if youre bowin down to everything else like the big crowd. ALso fistfull of steel is a microphone and that person is breaking the silence, hes telling hte people on a microphone that he dissaproves

RATM is an amazing band, one of the best in the 90's. This song states that corporations like radio stations are being payed to say everything the media tells them to, even though they have a persona as being a doesn't take crap in your face attitude.

And if the vibe was suicide
Then you would push da button
But if ya bowin' down
Then let me do the cuttin'

I think the first half of this is pretty obvious, but i think the second half means that if you follow the crowd, you are prone to 'losing your head'. as in becoming ignorant to everything around you as you follow this crowd.

"And if the vibe was suicide

maybe tha phrase "fistfull of steel" could refer to a gun? if we are still on the theme.

But if ya bowin' down
Then let me do the cuttin

could pefer to the ritual suicide of that japanses samurai, who commited suicide when the had dishonred themselves. but everybody knows that.

This song is clearly about conformity with a brainwashed mainstream of people following trait coz its considered "the norm," regardless of what it is....

but I also think it has something of a domestic violence feel to it. Women who suffer at the hands of abusive partners often stay silent out of fear and confusion - "silence can be violent"

A .44 full of bullets
Face full of pale
Eyes full of empty
A stare full of nails

Women who constantly put up with domestic violence eventually break. I think the .44 is a metaphor for her reaching breaking point after years of abuse. You find that many women carry out extreme acts of violence towards their abusive partners from bottling up their rage, instead of letting it out.

The:
Face full of pale
Eyes full of empty
A stare full of nails...

is her in a state of disollusion - almost like she has no choice - its either this, or face more abuse.

And mad boy grips the microphone
Wit' a fistful of steel

This line is about how someone pulling out a gun immediately becomes 'center stage' and who's 'voice' is heard. Actions speak louder than words.

A .44 full of bullets
Face full of pale
Eyes full of empty
A stare full of nails
The roulette ball rolls alone on the wheel
A mind full of fire
And a fistful of steel

This is how someone who's snapped pulling out a gun and taking the gamble of consequences.

If the vibe was suicide
Then you would push da button

Not as sure on this but maybe a suicide bomber.

But if ya bowin' down
Then let me do the cuttin'

Again, not sure, but likely meaning that if you chicken out of it he'd gladly slit your wrists for you and end your empty threat.

alot of what you've all been saying sounds plausable. but one thing i don't get is in live performances of this song, while tom is doing the intro, zack says "this is for all the ladies in the house" anyone get anything from that p.s. been to about 5 ratm concerts in my life and only one of them didn't play this song. at the four thy did he said that and on the live performances on the internet he says that
