Dying

You've seen the crippled dance
Give me your money baby, now's your chance
Your lies like cyanide

I am so dumb
Just beam me up
I've had it all forever
I've had enough

Remember, you promised me...
I'm dying, I'm dying please
I want to, I need to be...
Under your skin

Our love is quicksand, so easy to drown
They steal the gravity out from moving ground

Remember, you promised me...
I'm dying, I'm dying please
I want to I need to be...
Under your skin

And now I understand
You leave with everything
You leave with everything I am
In the rain

And I now I know that love is dead
You come to bury me
There's nothing left here to pretend..

Remember you promised me...
I'm dying, I'm dying please
I want to, I need to be...
Under your skin

I'm dying I'm dying Please
I'm dying I'm dying Please
I'm dying I'm dying Please
Under your skin
Under your skin

General Comment:Dying is one of my most favorite songs by hole, but it is also my favorite song off the Celebrity Skin album. Lyrically, it is definitely one of my most favorite songs. just everything about the song is just really moving. i listen to it almost every day on spotify, and almost everyone i show it to falls in love with it.

honestly, how would i know what its about? its really none of my business. maybe its about kurt, maybe its about someone else, maybe its about her own struggles with herself. the point of music is to listen to it & relate to it on your own terms. not to try to guess what the artist was feeling or what he/she wrote it about. just feel the music.

I definitely think courtney is one of the strongest lyricist in music history. she is so talented and i love her music with Hole. i hope she will continue to stick around longer.

General Comment:Courtney has admitted this song is about Kurt, not Trent.
She and Trent did not have an epic love affair, nor was she that in love with him.

"I am so dumb/ Just beam me up/ I've had it all forever/ I've had enough" verse is a strong reference to Kurt and his choosing to end his life.

The Chorus:" Remember you promise me/ I'm dying, I'm dying, please
I want to, I need to be/ Under your skin"
To me seems like Courtney's grief and how she wanted to comfort Kurt and protect him from his own skin (self).

"And now I understand/ You leave with everything
You leave with everything I am/ In the rain
And I now I know that love is dead/ You come to bury me
There's nothing left here to pretend.."

Kurt was found dead on a rainy day, he left her with everything good and bad. She now understood that no matter what, he was always going to die and she now accepts that her lover/husband is dead and this isnt some fake headline but reality.

To me thats what this is about...Or its about two lovers fighting, one wants to keep the other alive at any cost and the other wants to die.

I think this song 100% about Kurt, however.

General Comment:i love this song, it's my favorite song from hole. makes me really emotional. for me, it's about giving up, hopelessnessand feeling like everyone has betrayed you. sometimes you just feel so alone that you would do anything to be loved by someone, anyone really, but at the same time you have stopped believing in everything beautiful. i've been battling with depression for about five years now, and this song desribes really well what i feel on the not-so-good days...

i have kind of a weird relationship with Hole, because although i've never liked Courtney Love as a person, i absolutely love her voice and her musical talents in general. but Hole's songs have also helped me see a whole different, more sensitive and humane side of her.

General Comment:SHE KILLED KURT COBAIN! and her bass player Kirsten Pfaff. Ruthless! you can check it all out on cobaincase.com tells you all the details and everything. Kurt wanted to split and get a divource. She wanted the money. Kristen wanted to leave the band and move back to Minneapolis to join her old friends in her other band. Next thing you know...She's dead too. OH! and Kurt couldnt have shot himself in the head cause he was already injected 3 times the leathal dosage of herione. Meaning he was dead in seconds already! so how can a dead guy pull the trigger??? hmmm....conspiracy! interesting huh?

    AGREED!!!

BY THE WAY, THIS SONG MAKES ME LAUGH, JUST THE SIGHT OF HER DYING MAKES ME CRACK UP.

General Comment:Ok firstly; these lyrics are wrong they are.

    You see the cripple dance
    Pay your money, baby
    Now's your chance
    Eyes like cyanide

    am so dumb
    Just beam me up
    I've had it all forever
    I've had enough

    Remember, you promised me
    I'm dying, I'm dying, please
I want to, I need to be
    Under your skin

    Our love is quicksand
    So easy to drown
    They steal the gravity, yeah
    From moving ground

    Remember, you promised me
    I'm dying, I'm dying, please
I want to, I need to be
    Under your skin

    And now I understand
    You leave with everything
You leave with everything I am
    Withering

And now I know that love is dead
    You've come to bury me
There's nothing left here to pretend
    Anything

    Remember, you promised me
    I'm dying, I'm dying, please
I want to, I need to be
    Under your skin

    I'm dying, I'm dying, please
    Under your skin

    Under your skin

Also I have read that this song is actually about Trent Reznor.

I dont think its about a drug addiction the lyrics to be describe feelings for a person.

Regardless of what Courtney meant this song to be about she is my absoloute role moel and the strongest and most amazing women out there. Her lyrics are just amazing.

General Comment:This song definitley tells me it's about her heroine addiction...
    "You've seen the crippled dance
Give me your money baby, now's your chance
    Your lies like cyanide"
meaning when she was metaphorically feeling crippled (like shit) the heroine metaphorically made her 'dance' meaning it took her from one extreme to the other.. 'give me yout money baby now's your chance' - giving money to a dealer..
"Your lies like cyanide" Basically, drug addiction ahs a mind of it's own and it lies to her, if you have a problem with drug addiction, you'll know what i mean.

    I am so dumb
    Just beam me up
    I've had it all forever
    I've had enough
(She's dumb for believeing the lies her addiction tells her) , beam me up - shoot me up, .. 'ive had it all forever, id had enough' subconsciously desperate to get out of the nasty cycle of drug addiction. she wants out.

    "Remember, you promised me..."
Now this could either be relating to her needy love for kurt, needing him to take her pain away, or i really think it means The lies that the addiction in her head promised her, how the drugs would do certain things for her that were total bullshit, lie
k i said, uve have a drug problem u'll know what i mean.

    "I'm dying, I'm dying please"
The drugs, how it feels coming off of them, and all fo the aftermath, talk about wanting to die.

I want to, I need to be...
    Under your skin"
maybe this does mean what someone else mentioned.. how she wants kurt to be more into her than his heroine, 'under your skin' like she wants to have that effect on him..

"Our love is quicksand, so easy to drown
They steal the gravity out from moving ground"
could either mean her relationship with kurt or her relationship with drugs, self explanitory on how.

    "And now I understand
    You leave with everything
You leave with everything I am
    In the rain"
the more i analyze these words, the more i begin to think it's completely about her drug addiction.
i think this part means how the drugs took everything from her and instead of her getting positive things out of the drugs like the addiction in her mind told her she would.. it left her 'in the rain' meaning it took her for everything she had and left her to rot.

And I now I know that love is dead
    You come to bury me
There's nothing left here to pretend..

yeah this is definitley about her drug addiction, enough said.. it's official.

General Comment:I agree with allisonkasstan, I think its about a drug addiction. When I was addicted to Crystal Meth it was horrible and I listened to this song all the time and it totally described how I was feeling about my drug addiction and about my boyfriend. It's weird becuase at the time I didnt really think it was about how she's dying becuase of the drug and wants someone to help her by
    "I'm dying, I'm dying please
I want to, I need to be...Under your skin"
But now it all makes sense because I did feel like I was dying and really needed my boyfriend to help me out of that terrible addiction.

General Comment:even though i don't know that much about courtney love other than what i hear in her music and the weird stuff she does on tv and the fact that she threw her compact at madonna (my main idol), i totally love her just the same and i agree with machupicchu. i don't who killed what or who, all i know is that courtney didn't kill kurt, but he didn't kill himself. i will not go on into the argument, if you want to read what i had to say about those two, read my comment on miss world!
