Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Into this house we're born
Into this world we're thrown

Like a dog without a bone
An actor out alone
Riders on the storm
There's a killer on the road

His brain is squirmin' like a toad
Take a long holiday
Let your children play
If ya give this man a ride

Sweet memory will die
Killer on the road, yeah
Girl ya gotta love your man
Girl ya gotta love your man

Take him by the hand
Make him understand
The world on you depends
Our life will never end

Gotta love your man, yeah
Wow!
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm

Into this house we're born
Into this world we're thrown
Like a dog without a bone
An actor out alone

Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm

Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm

My Interpretation:> We're the "riders" on the "storm", life.
this following verse I think sums up what the whole song may be about...
"His brain is squirmin' like a toad"=
I feel is talking about confusion, maybe stress, just alot of mixed stuff that goes through someones head
    "Take a long holiday"=
take a break from whatever it is, because you need it.
    "Let your children play"=
relax, let go a little, it's okay.

"If ya give this man a ride
    Sweet memory will die"=
If you let whatever it is in your way, risks, for example
everything around you will fall, die. beware..
~ be careful with the choices you make

    "Killer on the road, yeah"=
whatever it is gets in your way of life and it will ruin it.

"Girl ya gotta love your man"= cherish what you got.

Song Meaning:The thing with real, true and inspiring music is that it make the meaning to each his own. I can describe you 1000 references of this song to my life and a billion perspectives you or i can take. But in the end it's you, and what it means to you.
That's the great thing about Doors, they open many worlds and possibility's :)

I will do my best make this as general as possible:

We are riders in the storm,

Into this house we're born, (ur home, family, house of god)

Into this world we are thrown (thrown into the wild)

Like a dog without a bone(Wild, vicious, hungry)

An Actor out alone(who will he act for?)

There is a killer on the road(duh, killer on the the road of ur life...)

His brain is squirming like a toad(you ever see a frog do it neck thing, how it's about to explode...his brain is overwhelmed, overfilled, wild, destructive, i think the word squirming should speak for it self, but yet again, whats ur vision of the word squirming :)?)

    Take a long holiday (relax...)

Let your children play (let them do their thing)

If ya give this man a ride ( pick up a "beggar', per-say a man who fears of his own path)

Sweet memory will die (his words might confuse, rebuild, kill, destroy your sweet dreams)

Girl ya gotta love your man
    Take him by the hand
    Make him understand
    The world on you depends
    Our life will never end
(dont let people get in the way of your love and family, thats first priority)

I hope i did my best to help you see what doors Jim Morrison tried to show :)

General Comment:This was my favorite song as a young(er) child, and my dad always said it was about Ted Bundy, but now I realize that the song was written and released before Bundy even started murdering people....

My Opinion:I've always listened to it as a very existentialist song. Life and/or the world is a storm and we're all riders on it, heading towards an unpredictable future with death it's only outcome. It is (as has already been said by others) an irrational, hostile world which we are all 'thrown' into 'like a dog without a bone' (life without purpose or meaning) and 'an actor out on loan' (life is what you make of it, purpose and meaning are for you to find). It's interesting though because for years I thought it was 'Hector out alone' (rather than 'actor...), as in Hector fighting Achilles, resulting in certain death.
Anyway, is it not 'sweet family will die' rather than 'sweet memory will die?

My Interpretation:This song teaches me a simple little lesson about riding out the trials and tribulations of life. It can help to deal with the sense of being thrown into a world and the loneliness and unhappiness of being in the world. Throughout the song, from beginning to end, is a sense of trouble. Whether it is a murderous desire or not feeling at home in the world or heaviness or burning rage or primal jealously, or the fear, it can consume and destroy our lives. The point is to not let it! Survive it!

General Comment:"You guys are so silly. To truly understand this song you have to take 5 hits of acid. Then and only then can you truly appreciate and understand what jim morrison is trying to say. Come on let your children play man."

really, an idiotic comment, show some responsibility towards those who might be reading this.

i can say after having spent many hours on acid as a youth, including a six week solid period on mushrooms after being given a bag of 5000 of wales' finest freshly picked (we somehow lost two weeks there), acid wont make any difference in your understanding of anything, but your normal thoughts will seem more relevant, what's needed to form understanding is simply intelligence.

which you will lose if you take acid as it causes malfunctions in the brain circuitry that can last forever, i still see visual traces due to my first ever acid tab, that was some 20 years ago when i was about 13.

    dont do acid :\

that said, badly prescribed meds for my depression dropped my iq from 118 to 97 with just one pill (i got dumbed down), still recovering from that one 10 years later.

dont do prescribed meds from angry pre breakdown psychiatrists who cant argue with logic :\

My Opinion:I've read a lot of good comments. In my opinion the song contains : Jim Morrison's childwood memories (the famous car crash) ; the terrible visions induced by LSD ; great poetry. In a few word it's a true work of art, like a statue or a painting.

General Comment:Morrison practiced 'consciousness flow' which allowed him to mix and match whatever thoughts coursed through his mind that rhymed, in this song, it just happened to be women and Serial killers like manson. There is no 'hidden' meaning.

General Comment:I like to think of the lyrics like a movie. I'm not correct, but I think it makes sense.

    Riders on the storm X2
Into this house we're born, Into this world we're thrown
Like a dog without a bone, An actor out alone,
    Riders on the storm

"Riders on the storm" is like teenagers riding (driving) into a storm (killer's home)
Then it changes to the killer's life, "Into this house we're born, Into this world we're thrown"
That line shows how he was never cared for as a child.
"Like a dog without a bone, An actor out alone" This line could mean his need for things.
Then it goes back to the teenagers, "Riders On The Storm."

There's a killer on the road, His brain is squirmin' like a toad
Take a long holiday, Let your children play
If ya give this man a ride, Sweet family will die
    Killer on the road, yeah.

The first line claims he is in fact a killer.
Second line tells modern parents to let your children play and such so, they don't grow up to be violent.
Third line changes to the teenagers telling them if you give him a ride you will all be killed.
Fourth line just tells you again he is on the road.

Girl ya gotta love your man X2
Take him by the hand, Make him understand
The world on you depends, Our life will never end
Gotta love your man, yeah, Wow!

First line shows that the mother should love her "man" or child.
Second line shows that you should lead him into acknowledging the rules of life and to not murder etc.
Third line tells the mother that the world depends on you if you teach him right your future older son will not kill anyone. "Our life will never end" says that if doing so, the world will never kill itself.
Fourth line restates the first line.

The last three lines restate aswell.

I am an aspiring film director (I'm barely 13) so I turned this into a movie sorta. :P
