Take the highway to the end of the night
End of the night, end of the night
Take a journey to the bright midnight
End of the night, end of the night
Realms of bliss, realms of light
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to the endless night
End of the night, end of the night
End of the night, end of the night
Realms of bliss, realms of light
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to the endless night
End of the night, end of the night X2

General Comment:That's "Louis-Ferdinand Celine", as the author of "Journey to the End of the Night".

I actually read this about 35 years ago. Of course, I cannot remember a single thing about it.

General Comment:We are all taking a journey on the metaphorical highway of life, and for most the path is already chosen.

You can be born to the "the night," you can be born to "sweet delight."
Either/or can be trapped within a "realm of bliss."

Being it a realm of ignorant bliss, neither will ever come to see the light.

Realization of this situation, one born to "the night" can take control, phsically "end the night," cross over into the "bright midnight" and experience a "realm of light."

    And that's what he did...

General Comment:I will agree i think it shows there are people who are born into happiness and others who are always striving to feel joy.

I think Morrison could never feel fully fulfilled inside. Morrison preferred the night, he preferred to feel moody and lost in his own emotions. He was a spiritual person, and he lived a life many would question. I believe that's why the Doors were such a fundamental rock group, they showed that dark side of music. They were way before their time; so many groups today don't even mirror the talent of the doors. For anyone looking to better understand Morrison or The Doors i would highly recommend reading "No one Here Gets Out Alive" or "Riders on the Storm".

General Comment:in my opinion, there is a clear duality of people...those who were born satisfied, and those who would have to work all of their lives chasing satisfaction. These people you could very easily clarify as rich (sweet delight) or poor (endless night), ignorant (realms of bliss) or enlightened (realms of light)...etc etc... when you notice the duality u get the meaning.

General Comment:to me represent a particular situation that Jim lived.
is something like that he wanted to find the "Light", the knoledge, but he was imprisoned in the darkness.

General Comment:This is one of the few Blake references I've seen in Jim's lyrics. It's really awesome though. This is such an entrancing piece. "Realms of bliss, realms of light."

General Comment:This is probably my favourite Doors track. I played it to a class of young teenage Chinese students (studying English) and asked them to tell me the meaning of the song.

I was damn impressed with their answers. It's about someone who is the deep depression of the night who wants to be happy again by seeing the dawn etc.

General Comment:By the way, this song also references Louis Ferdinand Destouches' book "Journey To The End Of The Night" --- "a novel of savage, exultant misanthropy, full of cynical humour and the blackest pessimism in respect of humanity." (from wikipedia)
