Walk me out in the morning dew my honey,
Walk me out in the morning dew today.
I can't walk you out in the morning dew my honey,
I can't walk you out in the morning dew today.

I thought I heard a baby cry this morning,
I thought I heard a baby cry this today.
You didn't hear no baby cry this morning,
You didn't hear no baby cry today.

Where have all the people gone my honey,
Where have all the people gone today.
There's no need for you to be worrying about all those people,
You never see those people anyway.

I thought I heard a young man morn this morning,
I thought I heard a young man morn today.
I thought I heard a young man morn this morning,
I can't walk you out in the morning dew today.

Walk me out in the morning dew my honey,
Walk me out in the morning dew today.
I'll walk you out in the morning dew my honey,
I guess it doesn't really matter anyway,

I guess it doesn't matter anyway,
I guess it doesn't matter anyway,
I guess it doesn't matter anyway,
Guess it doesn't matter anyway.

General Comment:It doesn't matter anyways one of the protagonists went back to finally elope with this woman that fell in love with him then went home to die with his family's corpses.

It doesn't matter anyways. Self explanatory.

General Comment:This song was written by Bonnie Dobson. She saw the film stayed up all night one of those mindsets and wrote the song. I watched the film and here's some interpretations:

Walk me out is about one of the main characters who had a wife and kid who died from radiation. He pretends like they're alive and there's the lyrics.

The young man is Paul he's rational accepting post apocylptic life and suicide for his family.

The baby crying is Paul's daughter. A baby. It cried in the beginning and the end. They killed it to make sure it was dead before they committed suicide before the radiation got there. It was implied not a scene.

Also you didn't hear a baby cry because everyone lives in denial. That's how they cope.

Watch the movie it's a rant.

Morning dew will move you so much if you watch the movie and listen to the song. It's amazing.

General Comment:I agree with all the positive comments on the Dead's version. The one by the Allman Brothers is also very well done with Greg A's soulful voice - worth checking it out.

General Comment:I think he sings about how life and death are the same thing. He is on one side, and she is on the other. They both exist, but in two separate realms, where they can't intersect. She can't see what he sees, particularly, the people as a result of who, she died. Occasionally, he hears voices coming from the other realm, and, therefore, the song ends as - "Guess, it doesn't matter anyway",meaning that it doesn't really matter if you're dead or alive. It's the same thing.

General Comment:It is about the aftermath of a nuclear war. You cannot go out for a walk in the morning dew because of the fallout. The baby, the young man, all the people that were once alive are not anymore. Bonnie Dobson was the author and original artist for this one.
