Mikey got with Sharon, Sharon got Sheriee
She was sharin' Sharon's outlook on the topic of disease
Mikey had a facial scar and Bobby was a racist
They were all in love dying they were doin' it in Texas
Tommy played piano like a kid out in the rain then he lost his leg in Dallas he was dancin' with the train
They were all in love with dying they were drinkin' from a fountian
That is pouring like an avalance coming down the mountian
I don't mind the sun sometimes the images it shows
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look through other people's eyes
Some will die in hot pursuit and firey auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit while sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life and drink it from a fountian
That is pouring like and avalance coming down the mountian
I don't mind the sun sometimes the images it shows
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look through other people's eyes
Another Mikey took a knife while arguing in traffic
Flipper died a natural death he caught a nasty virus
Then there was the ever-present football player rapist they were all in love with dying they were doin' it in Texas
Holly caught a bullet but it only hit his leg
While it should have been a better shot he got him in the head
They were all in love with dying they were drinkin' from a fountian
That was pouring like an avalance coming down the mountian
I don't mind the sun sometimes the images it shows
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look through other people's eyes

General Comment:It seams to me that this song is taking a deffensive stance on drugs as opposed to showing their horrors. It's making a point that there are a lot of ways that a person can die, and that just because the speaker is a herroin addict does not mean that it will be herroin that ends his life. The speaker reflects upon the people he knows who have died or come close to death. He notes that many who came close to death would have been better off dying.

The chorus is the heart of the song, saying that the speaker doesn't mind that he will one day die and that he chooses to live his life indulging in drugs. He knows that other people will react to this in different ways, but that they will never say just what they truely think of him. If they do, he won't know that they are telling the trueth.

The line "some will fall in love with life and drink it from a fountain that is pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain" reffers to the intense, fast, and short lives that drug addicts live.

General Comment:I think this song, like all great art has multiple interpretations that all reinforce the same basic conclusion.

I think that heroin use is a theme in the song, but it is used to demonstrate a broader point. I believe that the lines "they were all in love with dying, they were drinking from a fountain, that was pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain" is a metaphor for all activities that people engage in to excess. Heroin, casual sex, fighting, drinking, and driving when done in a reckless manner are all enjoyable but inevitably lead to tragedy. One cannot really "drink" something like an avalanche, and here the point is made that while these people choose their actions, they cannot control the outcome or what will ultimately happen.

General Comment:I think its about how close we are to dieing, and how we hush that so no one gets scared. I found another interesting interpretation @ ideafuz.com/…

General Comment:I think it's about how we cross in life and cross in death too, in often times bizzare ways.

General Comment:This song says a lot without forcing it. I don't think this song goes out of its way to make a point or send a message, and that's part of why it is such a great song. The purpose of lyrics is to "show," rather than "tell". So what does the song do? It gives us examples of the types of characters the singer is associated with, images of life so to speak. And as for falling in love, it could be with death, or with living dangerously, which is essentially "flirting with death" if we want to personify Death. The kid who lost his leg in a train accident, for example, flirts with death. And as for the chorus:

I don't mind the sun sometimes, the images it shows
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look through other people's eyes

I think the sun, because it is essentially light, just represents him seeing the truth. He doesn't mind it for these reasons: it is cinnamon and sugary, yet juxtaposed with softly spoken lies reveals what the sun reveals: that there is a downside to everything as well. A lot of these 90's lyrics do the same thing and it's really neat. Third Eye Blind lyrics work the same way.

    General Comment:I fucking got it!!!

    POV of characters!!!
I don't mind the sun sometimes, the images it shows (people look at the sun are dumb it blinds them, but they do it anyway)
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes (sexual innuendo!!)
Cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies (another sexual innuendo)
You never know just how to look through other people's eyes (they don't know themselves so they do what they think other people think they should do themselves)

1rst verse sharon gave cherise an std
the facial scar is a supremacist thing and they were killing people in texas
tommy is a true story of a black boy who died by some white supremacists it was a famous story he played the piano good
hit on a white woman or whistled at her and thats why he died, he was traveling at the time.
he didn't break a leg (make it with his talent) he lost his leg (lost his life and talent)

this song is based on sick people seriously.

Some will die in hot pursuit in fiery auto crashes (i better slow the fuck down in my car!)
Some will die in hot pursuit while sifting through my ashes (sifting through ashes may imply inheriting money)
Some will fall in love with life and drink it from a fountain (live like there's no tomorrow, fountains symbolize eternity)
That is pouring like an avalanche, coming down the mountain (but they will died in this so its like what's the point?)

    Reckless people meet death...

So don't do heroin kids. In my town some kids are dying of heroin abuse. Seriously what a waste. Make music but don't do heroin its not fun. My friend's bro was a fucking kurt kobain and he died by drug abuse :(

Im tired of interpreting this song... blah.

    General Comment:[[btw, random side note.]]

rape is in my opinion the wost crime possible on-par with torture cuz not only can it hurt unbelievably bad, it can even cause ; disease, std's, and infections. it can also more likely than not, cause lifelong trauma and mental problems from shock, fear and pain. people can develop irrational distrust of everyone, depression and even extreme anger toward people who even mention sex around them. in the worst cases a rapist could live nearby and could even be a family member in their house! and the person being forced into sexual situations, for whatever reason, will keep it a secret and have to hide blood, avoid doctor visits or keep from screaming to not get the man/woman caught. in really sad (and in my opinion enraging) situations, the person could be keeping getting raped a secret cuz they still like the person or care about the person raping them (this does happen, i know someone whos like this) and they just let it happen!

so if you ever have a suspicion that someone is being raped then please do everything in your power to find the rapist and turn him or her in! this isnt like scuiside, the person wont get worse if you make it known that this is happening. there is nothing wrong with getting into someones business or talking to the persons freinds or family if you know theres a rapist and your freind is hiding their name. its wrong and should be treated as a punishable by death or life in prison.

like i said before, this is a tottally random sidenote, i went offcourse bigtime, idk why.

General Comment:mikey was sharons bf, sharon was freinds with cherise and "got" (understood) her cuz she thaught the same way about desease. probly agreed with her about not havin sex with hi cuz he had a desease or something. this would be an example of thinking before you act.

mikey had a facial scar wich means he gets in lots of fights (maybe cuz bobby was so racist?) and bobby was a racist wich would get him in trouble with some people (thus mikeys scar) "they were all in love with diein" could be with just bobby an dmikey or all, not sure.

tommy REALLY loved playin pianno, but mustve lost his leg while playin in some train tracks. (an example of NOT thinking before you act)this either made it harder or imposible to play most pianos right cuz of the pedals at the bottom of some pianos. for one reason or another, all these people were "drinking from a fountain like an avalanch comin down the mountain" they were living life in the rush of the moment, only taking the concequences after they have their fun.

i think the "sun" is him see the world clearly, with responcablity and worry, but he doesnt mind cuz either he enjoys a little responsibily or it lets him enjoy his freedom even more. "cinomon and sugery (describing the lies ) and softly spoken lies". these lies must be the lies told to people that if they get a job and take responsabily for thinks theyll have a better, happier life. he probly doesnt believe this. "you never know how you look through other peoples eyes" this could mean he doesnt wanna look like everyone else, he wants to look diferent, feel unique instead of just another cog in the machine.

some will die from crime "in hot persuit, in fiery auto crashes" some will die doin what he does and has already doen "some will die in hot persuit (fallowing him and his ways) "while sifting through my ashes" his ashes being his past, and what he used to, or still does do. the next lines juat say that some people (him and his freinds) love life and wanna experiance every exiting part of it even the bad stuff.

another guy named mikey was killed in a trffic fight by gettin stabbed. ( probly ment to tell people not to freak out over trafic all the time) some random person nicknamed flipper, or a pet maybe? caught some virus and died. maybe it was an STD if it was a human. (again sayin to think before you have sex or at least wear a condom) and the "football player rapist" couldve pertained to the Dallas Cowboy player, but either way could mean that hes "ever preasent" could be him sayin *"why the hell is he still on the team!!??"* --btw if he got kicked off the team for that, forgive me for my ignorence, i didnt wanna look it up--

Pauly must've been a cop, and he ment to shoot the guy in the leg but he got shot there first and accidentally shot the criminal in the head. wich would get him a a year or more in jail at most cuz of self defence cuz he got shot. or he was a crimnal and he shot the cop i the head, wich he'd get a worse punishment cuz hes a civilian. or maybe either him as a cop or cicilian, he got shot in the leg THEN the head, probly by some thug or somethin, or a really crooked cop. not much of a moral here 'cept dont get in fights with guns involved or you will get shot and die. or if your a cop you should be really damn carefull!!!

thats my thaughts and if you took the tie to read through that jumbled mess of hastily typed junk, congrats to you :D leave a comment about your thaughts, id actually like to hear your improvements or thaughts about my hypothesis.

General Comment:Actually I think GTony is pretty much 100% correct. (Also, you can't say that anyone's analysis is wrong. That's the point of song analysis--it's interpretation.)

The first thing I notice about the song is the Sitar in it, which is commonly associated with psychedelic, LSD-type music. This song represents an Eastern outlook toward life: the yin and yang of existence, you cannot have life without death nor death without life, attachment is suffering, etc.

In several of the stanzas the song gives a couple examples of death: "Some will die in hot pursuit in fiery auto crashes" and "Some will die in hot pursuit while sifting through my ashes." The third example of death in this verse is "Some will fall in love with life and drink it from a fountain/That is pouring like an avalanche, coming down the mountain." This is because, as many have mentioned, living is dying. The more you "buy in" to the whole Life illusion, the more suffering you create for yourself--a virtual hell on Earth. So saying that "some will fall in love with life" is not a good thing and is actually another example of death just as a "fiery auto crash" or a "hot pursuit."

This song is meant to illustrate how "life," with our limited perspective of it, is just one huge f*****g trip, open to many interpretations, outlooks and experiences. However, we all begin the same and we all end the same. Everything comes full circle. There is a bunch of trippy imagery to support the LSD/psychedelic undertones in this song, such as "I don't mind the sun sometimes, the images it shows/I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes."

Finally, as someone said, a real gem of wisdom in this song can be found in the line "you never know just how you look through other peoples' eyes." Hello! That's exactly what a trip is! And that's exactly how life is. It reminds me of a famous quote-- "we don't see things how they are, we see things how we are." This means that reality is subjective and we are all in our own kaleidoscope of existence, witnessing and perceiving life in a manner vastly different from every single other person and creature in existence.

    Thank you.
