I went away to see an old friend of mine
His sister came over she was out of her mind
She said Jesus had a twin who knew nothing about sin
She was laughing like crazy at the trouble I'm in
Her light eyes were dancing she is insane
Her brother says she's just a bitch with a golden chain
She keeps coming closer saying "I can feel it in my bones
Schizophrenia is taking me home"

My future is static
It's already had it
I could tuck you in
And we can talk about it
I had a dream
And it split the scene
But I got a hunch
It's coming back to me

General Comment:I like this song. Not sure if these are the official lyrics but it almost sounds like Kim Gordon is saying "Your future is stag" instead of "My future is static" in the spoken word part of the song.
Either way the line makes sense for the song I guess.

General Comment:Schizophrenia literally means "split-mind" which is essentially what the two halves of the song are attempting to convey. Its been touched on before, but Sister was inspired the life and writings of Phillip K. Dick who not only had Schizophrenia but also a twin sister who died when he was a baby.

General Comment:One of my favorites. I think the first part is the guy visiting his friend to talk about something, perhaps another friend's death. That might explain the next part with the Jesus's twin line, where the sister sort of mocks the fact that the friend's dead, and might be going to hell. Or the guy did something bad and she's mocking that. Either way, she's laughing about something that appears to be serious. "Her light eyes were dancing, she is insane" just helps show that she's happy and not taking the guy's troubles seriously. The last couple of lines are sort of cryptic. Schizophrenia taking her home? Maybe she lives with her brother, and she's saying her mental disorder took her there--the brother has to watch over her. Or she's saying she's losing it, if home is somewhere that her mind is trying to take her. I'm not too sure about that part. The second half is probably her talking to herself,

    "my future is static
    it's already had it
    i could tuck you in
and we can talk about it"

She's talking to herself about how she won't get anywhere in life with her mental state
Then tries to console herself by saying "I could tuck you in, and we can talk about it".

The last part is also hard to interpret. I'm just assuming that she had a dream, maybe it was about her being normal, and the dream was hazy and she forgot most of it. But it's coming back to her now, making her wish the dream was real, that she was normal.

I think the first half basically shows how other people see her and the second half shows how she actually feels, how she knows she's different but wants to be normal.

Just my thoughts, they could be completely wrong.

General Comment:i kinda think the 2nd verse is the guy speaking back to the schizophrenic girl. like he called over to his friends to chat about a problem in his life but when he got there he realised that the friends sister was sick and wasnt getting any help from her family and was in anguish. so in the 2nd verse he is not only empatheizing with her (i could tuck you in and we could talk about it) but admitting to her that he suffers from the disorder also (my future is static, its already had it)

in a way he went over to get comfort from the friend but ended up finding someone better, someone that would truley understand and wanna talk about his worries (i got a hunch its coming back to me)

    sad but uplifting

Memory:From a girl with personal experience of schizophrenia

    my future is static
    it's already had it
    i could tuck you in
and we can talk about it
    i had a dream
    and it split the scene
    but i got a hunch
    it's coming back to me

her voice is the shizophrenics other voice, trying to explain why it is there, the voice is hushed from the girls own fear.
the dream with the split scene is the two different ways of seeing life, the word dream is used as its hard to tell which is real.

this more of a memory than a interpretation.
The start of the song is beautiful.

General Comment:I could be completely wrong and probably am but maybe... he went to go see a friend to talk about some trouble he is in, and I think the line "schizophrenia is taking me home" refers to that all of a sudden his troubles seem kind of insignificant because of the troubles his friend's sister has, and he's starting to feel better about whatever is troubling him.

General Comment:heh! guess Thurston & Kim are not idiots to sing about psychic disorder. what a bullshit with medical explaining of songs lines! song is about two weirdos met each other. schizophrenia's not something sick in this case. It's the best of SY.

General Comment:amazing.. the meaning's very obvious. although i might suggest that the "golden chain" could be a medical/hospital bracelet of some type..? that would explain the line 'she's just a bitch with a golden chain'.
