Lyrics for Sugar Kane as interpreted by shut

Sugar Kane Lyrics
You're prefect in the way
A perfect end today
You're burning out their lies
and burning in their eyes
i love you sugar kane
coming from the rain
kiss me like a frog
turn me into flame
i love you all time
i need you eight to nine
i can stay all night
your bodie's shining

and i know
there's something down there sugar soul
back to the cross a twisted lane
there something down there Sugar Kane

i'm back again in love
i'm back again a dove
where'd you get your lie
your smiling sugar life
another lovers day
another cracked up night
every night i say
light is coming

and i know
there's something down there sugar cone
back to the cross a twisted lane
there's something down there Sugar Kane

angel come and play
you fly me away
a stroll along the beach
until you're out of time
i love you Sugar Kane
a crack into the dream
i love you Sugar Kane
i love you Sugar Kane
i love you Sugar Kane
i love you Sugar Kane
i love you Sugar Kane
i love you Sugar

This song sounds like its about cocaine. Sugar (looks kinda like coke), Kane (CocaCAINE).

and burning in their eyes
*Cocaine makes your eyes HUGE*

i love you all time
i need you eight to nine
i can stay all night
your bodie's shining *He is addicted to coke, needs it all the time. He can stay all night because coke makes you unable to sleep*

angel come and play
you fly me away *Obviously talking about a cocaine high*

There are more references but these are the most obvious ones. Check out Candle or Star Power if your looking for a song about speed.

You're almost certainly right. I also love this song. That middle section is awesome.

Actually, 'Sugar Kane' was Marilyn Monroe's character in the film 'Some Like It Hot'.

Sugar Kane is the first sonic Youth song I've ever listened. Lovely song with such pretty lyrics. (I didn't know it could be about cocaine tough, I'm glad that I checked this page.)

As much as the name suggests cocaine I can't help but feel in every vein in my body that this song is about good 'ol Mary Jane. Think about it. First of all, the mellow feel to the whole tune, the lyrics(getting to this shortly) and the fact that I can't imagine Sonic Youth as coke fiends.

Ok, so lets analyze:

You're prefect in the way
A perfect end today (a joint at the end of the day? a perfect end to the day, one seldom does coke when one is about to go to bed)

You're burning out their lies
and burning in their eyes (red, dry eyes with dilated pupils. Also a reference to burning suggest that this is about a drug that is inhaled as smoke)

i love you sugar kane
coming from the rain
kiss me like a frog
turn me into flame (turns your world into magic and mystery, he loves the sugah kane, self explanatory. Also, flame bit another reference to smoke inhalation)

I'm just gonna pick out the most interesting parts now, a lot of it is self-explanatory

i'm back again in love
i'm back again a dove (you smoke it and the world is magic again, taking coke wouldn't make you feel like a dove, as he states)

every night i say
light is coming (he lights up every evening, another luminous experience every night)

Angel come and play part is self-explanatory

The main reason as to why I am 100% sure this song is about marijuana though, is because of the lines:
i love you Sugar Kane
a crack into the dream

A crack into the dream eh? Sounds like a spot-on description of a THC high.

That's my opinion anyway.

This is the most upbeat playful song SY has offered me. The chorus is vibrant and almost a bit poppy. I can't believe it only has a bit of comments either.

While it could seem fitting, I think drugs could be stretching it. A recent Sonic Youth biography written by David Browne indicates that despite the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll antics that are often associated with their scene and genre of music, Sonic Youth never succumbed to stereotypes or the sinister habits of those around them (namely, Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love to name a couple). Browne makes a witty reference to the one (recorded) time they attempted to do cocaine, which ended up being sneezed onto the floor.
