So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.

Can i have some money?
i'm gonna go to the store
can i have some money?
i can't tell you what it's for
can i have some money?
you know it's you that i adore
can i have some money?
don't ask me what it's for
since we've been together you've been good to me
you only hit me when you wanna be pleased
can i have the car keys?
i'm gonna go for a ride
can i have the car please?
i'm going out for a while
can i have the car now?
i wanna drive all around
can i have the car dear?
i'm going to leave this town
i won't be asking your permission to leave
i won't be asking not to have this baby please
and i won't be asking don't point some bust??? at me
and i won't be asking i had to see you bleed
ssssssh
visualize
that's right
forever we
one two three
shoot
shoot
shoot
shoot
can i have my lipstick?
that was such a surprise
can i have my lipstick?
i'm going out for a ride
i'm not a little girl
and you sure are not my dad
you don't even know what you almost had

Woman asking for money, not for an abortion, but to get away WITH her child. She said "i won't be asking NOT to have this baby please" meaning she would never ask to NOT deliver the child, because she wants it.
yeah but then she says<br /> <br /> "you don't even know what you almost had"<br /> <br /> which may mean the baby... if it were born?
Exactly, she's getting away with the child. Whoever she is leaving has neither child nor this woman... I assume. =/
But right before that she says "I won't be asking your permission to leave," meaning she knows she does not need a man's permission to make herself happy.<br /> Therefore, "I won't be asking not to have this baby please," would mean she is saying she DOES want an abortion, but she doesn't need to ask her man's permission to do that.<br /> That's how I took it anyway.
