Lyrics for Dirty Laundry as interpreted by Demau Senae

Dirty Laundry Lyrics
"I make my living off the Evening News
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em all around

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
comes on at five
She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam
in her eye
It's interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a
running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

You don't really need to find out what's going on
You don't really want to know just how far it's gone
Just leave well enough love
Eat your dirty laundry

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're stiff
Kick 'em all around

Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybody's pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

We can do "The Innuendo"
We can dance and sing
When it's said and done we haven't told you a thing
We all know that Crap is King
Give us dirty laundry!

this song is so amazing. It nails the news situation in America perfectly and it came out WHEN??
The phrase Kick when they are up/ down means.. When someone is a hero.. you do everything to bring them down... when they are down you STILL keep after them you beat them up more and humiliate them more..
It's pathetic and whats more disgusting is how easy the people (Lemmings) still follow the news and swallow what the news people do...

This song came on Sirius the other day and with all this huge news reporting after the tragedy at Virginia Tech I feel this song fits that mold perfectly. These national news channels are looking for ratings and stories not to report on the situation. Its a very sad situation.

Screw being a celebrity when you have a song this good that makes common people understand the darker side of fame. Love the printing press noise!

I love this song by Don Henley, never knew the meaning till now. It's true the media loves to cover tragedies, because people are sick and twisted and that is what they want to see. If it's too hardcore for you, than watch the damn weather channel.

Whats the deal with these shitty new groups sampling Henley songs? First the Ataris play Boys of Summer at the All Star game, they Elvis's daughter (can't place her 1st name right now) plays this song. Henley is the greastest lyricist of all time, a true master of the metaphor. Seeing these people rip off his writing makes me sick!

While listening to the Eagles Farewell Tour I from Melbourne CD, I will admit that I acquired an entirely new appreciation for the artistry of these fellows. I was a fan of theirs once in the 70's, and now all over again. Too bad the current news media doesn't "get it," nor the great majority of news listeners. Today's mainstream press is nothing more than a bus load of snake oil salesmen (sorry -- snakeoilpersons). No exceptions that I can think of. The mainstream press may very well be the "destruction from within" that was so feared during the cold-war; they're just a little late getting here. Thanks Eagles, for sounding the alarm! Wish more were listening.

I think 'kick 'em when they're up, kick 'em when they're down' is basically saying - hey, lets slag them off beacuse they're doing well. And hey, let's screw them over when they're not doing so great either = Tabloid journalism. Basic principle. The media love to see people rise, but they love to see them fall more.

I first heard the song whilst watching 'Outofoxed' - and the lyrics are so true of fox news. I just don't understand how fox anchors can get away with some of the things they say on that channel.

it means taking cheap shots on people...hitting someone when there already down is an insult because they are basically defenseless. In this song it means taking cheap shots on someone in a gossip way when they are not there to defend themself or say their side of the story.

You're definetly right. What does the 'kick em when they're up, kick em when they're down' parts mean?

I probably won't get a response, but meh

Right, Thats all this song is about is the worthless tabloids, shit like People Magazine and all that, that love to make someone look bad, and martyr them, just so they can sell that trash. Sad Really.

It is so true about the news. It is all trash and gossip. The reporters are pretty and ditsy. There is no real news, just crap and "We all know that Crap is King"
