It's another tequila sunrise
Starin' slowly 'cross the sky said goodbye
He was just a hired hand
Workin' on the dreams he planned to try
The days go by
Ev'ry night when the sun goes down
Just another lonely boy in town
And she's out runnin' 'round
She wasn't just another woman
And I couldn't keep from comin' on
It's been so long
Oh and it's a hollow feelin' when
It comes down to dealin' friends
It never ends
Take another shot of courage
Wonder why the right words never come
You just get numb
It's another tequila sunrise, this old world
Still looks the same,
Another frame, mmm
Starin' slowly 'cross the sky said goodbye
He was just a hired hand
Workin' on the dreams he planned to try
The days go by
Ev'ry night when the sun goes down
Just another lonely boy in town
And she's out runnin' 'round
She wasn't just another woman
And I couldn't keep from comin' on
It's been so long
Oh and it's a hollow feelin' when
It comes down to dealin' friends
It never ends
Take another shot of courage
Wonder why the right words never come
You just get numb
It's another tequila sunrise, this old world
Still looks the same,
Another frame, mmm

or "stirrin' slowly across the sky" ?
Stirrin' makes more sense, with the guy stirring awake after a
nitelong tequila binge, plus stirrin' the drink
the whole "hired hand" phrase threw me off, but I simply think he's new to a town that he's come to basically for work.
Every night passes by and he's alone because he doesn't know anybody, but she's out having fun, partying, probably sleeping around a lot.
He's basically fallen in love with this girl, but the big part I disagree with is "it comes down to dealin friends." I think he's saying that since he arrived, they have basically been friends, and that although he loves her she sees him only as a friend and not as a lover.
In the end, he says that you keep trying to build up that courage to say the RIGHT thing to her, and that everything he says so far comes off as a friend, but not really showing his true passion for her -- so in the end he just drinks his sorrows away. Every morning that same tequila-colored sunrise appears in the sky. Everything is still the same from the beginning -- the sun rises the same way and looks just as beautiful, but he is still lonely and without her in his arms.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned that this song was on side one of Desperado (the Eagle's BEST studio album, IMHO) which was a "a concept album, based on the Dalton gang and the Old West." (Thank you Wikipedia, I couldn't have said it better myself.)
Ranch hand, Old West saloon, saloon 'lady', unrequited love, longing for something more, another ineffective shot of tequila for courage to say the right words to her (strong, silent type), dealing friends like dealing cards (?)-- you don't know what hand Fate will deal you (in this case, the 'just friends' hand) drinking all night and stumbling out at dawn: big Western sky with huge vistas and swirling colors of the sunrise on the clouds like the swirling colors of a 'Tequila Sunrise' cocktail (do a Google image search).
BTW, again c/o Wikipedia: "The Tequila Sunrise is a cocktail... originally served at the *Arizona* Biltmore Hotel, the cocktail is named for the way it looks after it has been poured into a glass. The denser ingredients (cassis or grenadine) settle, creating gradations in color that mimic a sunrise."
Remember, the next song was 'Desperado' which complements this song perfectly.
Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet
Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get
Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking through this world all alone
Thanks @BluesRaven for the background tidbit.
Its about a guy who is infatuated with a girl who doesnt even know he exists, or maybe just isnt aware he has feelings for her. He drinks thinking it will make him get the guts to talk to her (Take another shot of courage, but the right words never come, you just feel numb) and in the end he just ends up trying to drink his way through his misery. He ends up just getting drunk and waking up to a world in which he is still alone, drinking solves nothing. (Its another tequila sunrise but this world still looks the same).
I think it's about a man who fell for a socialite. I don't think it was his best friends girl.
hollow feelin' = That's the feeling of being empty.. not guilty.
dealin' friends = He's using his friends as a connection to get to her.
I think the whole point of the song is that he wants a strong something and she wants to be free. He can't find the words to talk to her because his fear of rejection comes from his true belief that she isn't ready for something serious and enjoys the single life.
From a Tequilla drinker that can be easy done one last shot will put you past courage into Numb.
when in an enviroment where friends dissaprove of a married woman with a married man its a hollow feeling when you have to hide your true feelings
from everyone
when you talk to the one you love and cant speak to her or show her the affection she deserves you just feel empty .so i go home and feel the pain. so i drink and cant sleep ,i go outside and watch the beautiful sunrise come up ,which reminds me of how beautifuls the woman i cant be with is.
cry cry cry .......
