We're like crystal
(Hey)
We break easy
(Hoo)
I'm a poor man
(Hey)
If you leave me
(Hoo)
I'm applauded
(Hey)
Then forgotten
It was summer
(Hey)
Now it's autumn
(Hoo)
I don't know what to say
You don't care anyway
I'm a man in a rage
With a girl I betrayed
Here comes love
It's like honey
You can't buy it with money
You shook me to the core
You shook me to the core

(Hoo, hey)
We're like crystal
(Hey)
It's not easy
(Hoo)
With your love
(Hey)
You could feed me
(Hoo)
Every man
(Hey)
And every woman
(Hoo)
Needs someone
(Hey)
So keep it coming
Keep it coming
Keep it coming
Keep it coming
Keep it coming
Keep it coming

I don't know what to say
You don't care anyway
I'm a man in a rage
With a girl I betrayed
Here comes love
It's like honey
You can't buy it with money
You're not alone anymore
You shook me to the core
You shook me to the core

I don't know what to say
You don't care anyway
I'm a man in a rage
With a girl I betrayed
Here comes love
It's like honey
You can't buy it with money
You're not alone anymore
You shook me to the core
You shook me to the core
You shook me to the core
You shook me to the core

Keep it coming
Keep it coming
Keep it coming
Keep it coming
Keep it coming

General Comment:I hear "you shook me to the core" as well.

This is one of my favorite songs of all time.
Love is sticky, messy, and sweet like honey---I totally get that line in this song.
I've been through some rough times in relationships and that line always gave me comfort in a strange sort of way, telling me to hold on and just let love happen. *shrug* I wonder if anyone else interpreted that way.

Memory:Really love this song, its ironic that I listened to it and fell in love with without noticing the meaning of the words so much until now, now that me and my g/f has broken up for good. :( at least i tried everything.

My Interpretation:This song is about falling completely into love over summer (when most people's obligations to their society is on hold) and then BAM it is autumn and everything floods you back into reality and the pressure is just so strong "we're like crystal" i.e. FRAGILE "it's not easy" well... no shit. It is about a beautiful love becoming impossible to maintain. Love is irrational while society, social obligations and responsibilities are more rational in the eyes of many, the eyes of society, but never through the eyes of love.

General Comment:i love this song, it makes me feel so cheerful.
i think it's about life itself, so we are fragile as crystal, and we believe we need others to survive, and how relationships get so hard... in the end it's all forgotten.
the video of this song gave name to my all-time fav band so im incredibl grateful for that! love u new order!

General Comment:> I'm applauded, then forgotten
    > It was summer, now it's autumn

To me, these two verses echo the topic of mature artists (the song is from 2001, and see also "The Last Day of Summer" from the Cure's 1999 "Bloodflowers" album). This is strengthened even more by the video, showing this rather stereotypical new-new-wave/garage/Strokesey band. They're saying "Hey, we might just send these guys on stage so that we would be considered another band in the pack. Too bad that we actually invented the whole thing in '79!".

The fact that an actual band (as Ellie points out) chose to name itself "The Killers" after this video makes it even scarier!!!

I also think there is a Sumner/summer pun lurking just beneath the text :-)

    I'm applauded, then forgotten
I was sumNer, now I'm autumn
