Lyrics for Why Georgia as interpreted by Ice

Why Georgia Lyrics
I am driving up 85 in the
kind of morning that lasts all afternoon
I’m just stuck inside the gloom

4 more exits to my apartment but
I am tempted to keep the car in drive
and leave it all behind

cause I wonder sometimes
about the outcome
Of a still verdictless life
am I living it right
am I living it right
am I living it right
why, why Georgia, why

rent a room and I fill the spaces with
wood and places to make it feel like home
but all I feel’s alone

it might be a quarter life crisis
or just the stirring in my soul
either way

I wonder sometimes
about the outcome
of a still verdictless life
am I living it right
am I living it right
am I living it right
why, why Georgia, why

so what so I’ve got a smile on
It’s hiding the quiet superstitions in my head

don’t believe me
don’t you dare believe me
when I say I’ve got it down

everybody is just a stranger
but that’s the danger in going my own way
I guess it’s a price I have to pay
still everything happens for a reason
is no reason not to ask yourself if you are
living it right

are you living it right
are you living it right
why, why Georgia, why

This song is absolutely gorgeous - it relates so well to that feeling of being unsure about your life and where you're headed. I adore this song.

this song is so descriptive and easy to relate to. John Mayer is a lyrical God.
although, in the first verse of the song I'm pretty sure he says "and leave it all behind" not as it says here "leave this shit behind".

the "and leave it all behind" is on the album version, while "leave this shit behind" is on a live mp3. i love this song as well, and agree that it's so easy to relate to.

"it might be a quarter life crisis..." so many people can relate to that. you wake up one day, you're 20 some years old, and you say to yourself, "what the hell am I supposed to be doing?" that's what this song means to me

the lyrics "leave this shit behind" are from the live version... probably becuase if he hadn't changed the lyrics for the album, "parental advisory" stickers would have been put on the cover to save the innocence of all those 9-year olds who are out there itching to buy his CD... I mean hell, its teen pop, right? ;)

i looooooooove this song. i heard it as im going off to college and it hits so close to home. "everybody is just stranger, but thats the danger in going my own way. i guess its the price i have to pay" its all about questioning yourself in everything you do, and even though you look like you know what youre doing- inside you feel like youre screwed. its so great. i love him like no other.

this song just suddenly got meaning to me, i was never a big fan of it until now. wow this is such a powerful song now, its like am i living the life i should be or should i be doing something else, which would explain the title, being john moved to atlanta to pursue his music career, and hes thinking am i doing what i should be doing or not.

about what damacman said - I thought it was amusing that a fair portion of the audience wasn't even *alive* in 1983 ;-) plus I don't think "your body is a wonderland" is exactly g-rated. about the song itself - "the kind of morning that lasts all afternoon" I have far, far too many of those, and I think everyone can think of a day that just dragged on and on ...

"it might be a quarter life crisis, or just the stirring in my soul."
I saw a lot of comments on the first half of that lyric, but how can you ignore the second?? Maybe it's just me but there have been countless times when the stirring in my soul that I can't quite pinpoint is all over the map, without direction or a course. And I agree with john, ask yourself if you're living it right everday, that's a question that needs answered by a lot of people today.
I also LOVE
"so what so I’ve got a smile on
It’s hiding the quiet superstitions in my head "
Because I go through lots of smiles that aren't put on just to smile. It's easier some times to keep or "hide" those quiet superstitions.

Ya know.. for the longest time, I thought Georgia was a person. I thought he was asking a person named Georgia, if he was "living it right".

Anyway.. this is a great song. I think it's about feeling kind of directionless.. not knowing where your life is headed, or how it's going to head out. "I wonder sometimes about the outcome of a still verdictless life."

This song is my favorite of his right now. I love it so much. Even though I'm young, I've wondered so many times if "I'm livin' it right." John Mayer's lyrics are too good, he describes things in such an amazing way. Things that I think all of the time but would never know how to put into words.

To me this song is about how John went to Georgia to pursue his music career. He took a huge chance in order to be succesfull. When he first arrives there he questions this chance frequently and is tempted to just walk away and forget Georgia. He is also questioning his own life and wondering if he is living a good life as a good person. We should all ask ourselve, Are we living it right?

I think you can interpret it as John addressing a girl. But i'm fairly positive, that he means the state. lol. From what I've read, he either lived in or is living in Georgia.

God, if I had a dime for everyday I felt like that. Just leave it all behind and just drive to anywhere, nowhere. I totally love this song. I can relate. I don't know where I'm going and often wonder am I living it right? It's not about a girl at all. It's about not knowing what the hell to do with your life. Yeah I don't get the Georgia part. But what's to get. It's just a great song to drown yourself in.

John began his career in athens GA.. he used to play at a coffe bar here called "bluesky". "driving up 85" refers to interstate 85 that runs up the east coast.. and right near athens. He just kinda moved out here without really settleing in.. so i dont think he knew alot of people.. and he was taking a big risk for his music by randomly moving here. by the way if you see the video for "no such thing" its footage from a concert at the "athens theater" where he kinda started out. the rest is kinda self explanitory.. the song is basically about his doubts, fears, and other feelings as hes basically trying to make a life for himself. athens is a big college town so it was a great place for him to start.

P.S. GO DAWGS (UGA)
