Do some people wind up with the one that they adore
In a heart-shaped hotel room it's what a heart is for
The bubble floats so madly will it stay sky-high?
Hello partner
Kiss your name bye-bye
Sometimes...

Romantic Piscean seeks angel in disguise
Chinese-speaking girlfriend big brown eyes
Liverpudlian lady sophisticated male
Hello partner
Tell me love can't fail

& it's you & me in the summertime
We'll be hand in hand down in the park
With a squeeze & a sigh & that twinkle in your eye
& all the sunshine banishes the dark

Do some people wind up with the one that they abhor
In a distant hell-hole room third world war
But all I see is films where a colourless despair
Meant angry young men with immaculate hair
Sometimes...

Get up a voice inside says there's no time for looking down
Only a pound a word & you're talking to the town
But how do you coin the phrase though that will set your soul apart?
Just to touch
A lonely heart

& it's you & me in the summertime
We'll be hand in hand down in the park
With a squeeze & a sigh & that twinkle in your eye
& all the sunshine banishes the dark

& it's you I need in the summertime
As I turn my white skin red
Two peas from the same pod yes we are
Or have I read too much fiction?
Is this how it happens?

My Interpretation:As the songs on "Reading, Writing and Arithmetic" seem to be about life and love for the perspective of moving from your teens into your twenties, the songs on "Static and Silence" reflect the same subjects from the perspective of turning thirty (by which time Harriet and David had been married for some time and had children). If this song is at all autobiographical, it bodes well for them - they're still in love and appreciate that this makes them fortunate compared to their peers who are still looking for love through the lonely hearts ads.

General Comment:Is it just me, or does anyone else hear this and think of a sunny park in the 1970s? So nostalgic.

General Comment:I have to say i'm agreeing with mankind716 on this. This girl seems so annoyed with the concept of finding love but she is hopeful that it can happen one way or the other for her. I love this song though. It's really nice and the guitars just give you that fantasy feeling. Maybe that too could add to the meaning of the song in that she is just wondering to herself about love in this dream world with many concepts of finding love! Who knows?

General Comment:This is such a romantic song, I think it kinda shows how naive people can be as far as finding the one you love. I like the newspaper idea, that's quite a convincing argument. I dunno, call me crazy but it seems like a frustrated girl who despite the difficulties of finding a significant other still realizes there's light at the end of the tunnel.

General Comment:This is a great band. They remind me of The Smiths. I love those guitars. This song is about love. As for the covers...I usually like originals anyways, so who cares about City On Film's version?

General Comment:This song is about looking for love and doing it in the small ads in newspapers: "Romantic Piscean seeks angel in disguise" is typical of those sort of adverts. It goes on from the idea that you meet a person to the outcomes of that - could be great, could not be - and as I see it the subject of the song convincing herself that it is worth taking the chance.
