Lyrics for In The Fade as interpreted by OwnPersonalDemon

In The Fade Lyrics
Cracks in the ceiling, crooked pictures in the hall
Counting and breathing, I'm leaving here tomorrow
They don't know, I'd never do you any good
Laughing is easy, I would...
If I could

Ain't gonna worry, just live 'til you die
I wanna drown with no-where
To fall into the arms of someone
There's nothin' to save
& I know
You live 'til you die

Losin' A feelin' that I couldn't give away
Counting and breathing, disappearing in the fade
They don't know, I'd never do you any good
Stoppin' and stayin', I would...
If I could

It's about the holocaust, i heard josh homme, nick oliveri, and mark lanegan talk about it on much music at the records debut. QOTSA was better than they are now, though they do have grohl, but not live. ~Kev-o

Just an idea, but could it be about someone on death row. They're nearly going to be killed and they're saying, i'm alive until i die so it doesn't matter. Highly improbable but thinkabout it fromt hat perspective.

it's "crooked pictures in the hall" and "they all know I'd never do you any good" and "Ain't gonna worry..."

the subtitle of this song is the Universal Subconscious. the basic idea is that something like this is going on through the heads of everyone in the world, though they don't all realise it. thinking about such a concept invokes the image of an unusual dream world or a situation like in a dream, where something just isn't normal, and the sounds at the start and the imagery of a crooked house and a long hallway i get from the first few lines just puts you there. this is probably their best song, they sort of killed it by adding the outro into a reprise of Feel Good Hit of the Summer. it needs a music video.

I put a possible connection between this and "songs for the deaf" for the other song if you are interested...

If you own the booklet to this Cd its obvious how they wrote this song. They had to make decorations for the inside of the booklet so they spent the evening in this crappy motel. I believe that they also were writing lyrics at the time. So I think this song was written about whatever was going through Marks head at the timeand

Cracks in the ceiling, crooked pictures in the hall (not heart)
Countin and breathin, I'm leaving here tomorrow

Duh he has writers block throws in what he sees in the crappy hotel that hes leavin tomorrow

I'm pretty sure its about sitting in pretty much in a hotel room with a girl, staring up at the ceiling, knowing that you're gonna leave her the next day. Even tho you like her, its gotta end sometime and even tho your happy at the moment your gonna have to have a period of rough times till you find someone new.

I think that this song might be about someone who is due to get married, and his bride-to-be's parents think he is are amazing but he does not think that he is good enough for her. So he decides to drown himself rather than "fall into the arms of someone" (his partner), thus he is "disappearing in the fade" as in the darkness of a river or something.

I think that the first verse is in a motel or somewhere similar, where the guy is staying the night before he plans to end his life.

He is about to leave his girlfriend.

"There's nothin' to save
that I know
You live 'til you die"

existentialism. You have only this life, make the best out of it, sooner or later you will die.

It's a guy leaving a lady.

"They don't know, I'd never do you any good. Laughing is easy, I would... If I could"

He know he isn't right for her, he or they know something has happened between them that nobody else does. Maybe they know they aren't for each other.

"I wanna drown, with nowhere to fall into the arms of someone"

He feels remorse for something, he wants to pay for his sins and really be punished for what ever it is.

Mark was definitely the right choice to sing this song. I couldn't see Josh singing this and giving it the same effect (meaning the melodic, dreamy effect), thought his backup vocals certainly add to the song.
Great song.

im not sure about this, but, something like a heroin addiction? heroin users have said it feels like intense nothingness. "I wanna drown with no-where", kinda seems like a heroin trip. and 'Losin' A feelin' that I couldn't give away', kinda seems like a junkie who wants to give up heroin, but the effects of heroin are so powerful. but other than those couple of lines, i dont really know what this songs about
