She smashed the radio with the board of education
Turn up the static left of the state of the nation

Turn up the flame, step on the gas
Burning the flag at half mast
She's a rebel's forgotten son
An export of the revolution

She is the first voice of the last ones in line
She'll drag the lake to keep the vendetta alive

Bring in the head of the government
The dog ate the document
Somebody shot the president
And no one knows where Maria went?

Maria, Maria, Maria,
Where did you go?

Be careful what you're offering
Your breath lacks the conviction
Drawing the line in the dirt
Because the last decision
...is no.

My Opinion:I know this is a Warning outtake, but am I the ONLY one who thinks this would fit somewhere on the Amreican Idiot album?

General Comment:Ugh, are you kidding me you guys? I guess none of you really ever look up stuff about the band or anything. Maria was just a nanny that Billie Joe had for his kids. And she like left one day or something.

General Comment:I think Maria is Whatsername.

They're both described as rebels ("She's a Rebel" from American Idiot, and from this song "she's a rebel's forgotten son/an export of the revolution,").

"And no-one knows where Maria went." What if she ran away from wherever, started going by Whatsername, and now is known by Whatsername ("from Chicago to Toronto..."). Maria might've been around when "somebody shot the president" and ran away, either because she did or she was afraid of being framed. The running-away-when-trouble-comes matches Whatsername, who ran away from the City when Jimmy started going seriously crazy.

General Comment:His sister's name is Marci, not Maria. I think Maria is more of a concept than a real person. I agree with whoever said that she is a symbol for punk, anarchy, and passion for a cause. "Maria, where did you go?" means "where has the spirit of the rebellion gone?"

"Be careful what you're offering, your breath lacks the conviction," is about how no people are being half-assed about everything now.

General Comment:I believe the line is "Somebody shot the president/And no one knows where the reel went", thus completing the pun.

General Comment:Maria seems like the kind of person who stands up for what they believe in. I know someone who is really conservative, and I'm liberal, but she actually backs up her opinions with logic and stuff. It's nice to know that there are some people who will form their OWN opinions.

    General Comment:uhm...i love this song...
and i believe to have find who maria is...
    listen to me:

maria is a rebel, without any doubt!
have so many importance a name??
    she is everyone of us!
she is every girl or boy that make a mess...
she...is she and nobody can be like her, because nobody can be like me or like everyone of you!

another interpretation is that the name Maria has been chosen because it has a hidden meaning...
so maria is ...marijuana...and remembering the fact that "green day" means "a day passed smoking weed it's probably!!

    expecially when Billie Joe says:
    "Be careful what your offering"
"turn up the static left of
    the state of the nation"
    "Maria, where did you go?..."

all these phrases could be related to the fact that maria is "illegal", it has to be hidden and it's consumed by people that (the most) oppose the government and so are in the "left side" of a nation...
    i think so...
