Lyrics for Bittersweet Symphony as interpreted by kevin

Bittersweet Symphony Lyrics
Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this life...
Try to make ends meet , you're a slave to the money then you die.
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down...
You know the one that takes you to the places where all the things meet, yeah.

No change, I can change, I can change, I can change,
but I'm here in my mould , I am here in my mould.
But I'm a million different people from one day to the next...
I can't change my mould , no,no,no,no,no,no,no

Well I've never prayed,
But tonight I'm on my knees, yeah.
I need to hear some sounds that recognise the pain in me, yeah.
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind , I feel free now.
But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singing to me now.

No change, I can change, I can change, I can change,
but I'm here in my mould , I am here in my mould.
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mould, no,no,no,no,no,no,no

Have you ever been down?
I can change, I can change...

Cause it's a bittersweet symphony this life.
Trying to make ends meet, try to find somebody then you die.
You know I can change, I can change, I can change,
but I'm here in my mould, I am here in my mould.
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next.
I can't change my mould, no,no,no,no,no,no,no

We've got ya sex and violence melody and silence
(Have you ever been down)
(I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down)

This is ABSOLUTELY my favorite song of all time! I could say so much about it, but I wouldn't be saying enough. It has helped me through the good & bad times. It's the pick me up/get psyched/inspirational/feel good song. Even though it's basically saying "Life sucks and then you die", it holds more than that for me. Like others have said, I love driving with this song blaring in my car! Definitely the most played song on my iPod!!

this is one of the most unique songs ive ever heard. the lyrics are depressing but its like medicine when youre sad. again, the writer seems to be perfectly flawed.

I sort of prefer the melody to the lyrics, but this song has to be the best ever. :) I admit it really adds deeper emotion to the finale of "Cruel Intentions," as well.

But I swear I had heard it somewhere before that movie.. perhaps a music video? Hn..

this song basically captures the essence of all human pursuit in not so many words. however the true meaning really depends on what context each person relates to it. for me this song and the melody kind of makes me rise above everything and makes everything we chase and long for seem very futile, its almost as if we cant see the big picture. when i am very disillusioned and kind of lost, when things around me seem meaningless, it kind of eases me out.
there's something redeeming about the melody and the song.
i would also like to add that Mr. Billynomates has in not so many words, brilliantly explained why the 'no mates' part of his name makes a lot of sense.

How sad that most people only remembers it because of a movie, I'm sure Mr. Ashcroft wouldn't be too glad about it. But what can you do?

I must say is was a superhit over here in Southamerica as well, but it just got to me after listening to it in Live8. I think it's because I'm just older, almost in my mid-twenties, and I've gone through the deepest ups and downs, and then down again.

Everything about this song is breathtaking, it reminds you of how frail is life itself. It will be stuck in my head as one of the most powerful 90's tunes ever.

This song means a lot to me, because I feel as though I try hard to change, it's impossbile. We're all born in the same mold, and we can't change it. I think our "mold" is everything we're surrounded by, forcing us to do the things we have to do (work, pray), and it's hard to break away from it all and hope that life on the other end will come out okay.

The only road you know is really the one you've travelled on your whole life, nobody else can experience what you've experienced exactly. We all start out where all the things begin, we just all go in opposite directions from there.

I love listening to this on my walk to school, feeling the sun beat down on my face, the wind blowing through my hair. Yeah just like a cheesy movie scene

Geez, more comments about a bad movie than the actual song.

I love listening to this song as I walk down the busy streets on my way to work. Just gives me a bit of a lift. The drums are the key to the song, imo.

I think it's fairly obvious what the song is about. Life is so bittersweet! You love being alive and enjoy so much in this beautiful world, but it's always bittersweet because of the pressure to be like everyone else and get ajob, make money, buy crap you don't need, find a partner, get married, etc etc

These things can take over your entire existence - which is unfortuante because life is so short.

This is the best song. I've been hearing it since I was eight, and although I only ever got the main line of the song back then, I still loved it. I like it even better now because it pertains to my life and the life of those around me, especially in this current time.

xArcanum I guess your right, because that's what's shown in their video basically :). And I do love that video allright :).

As for me this song means that humans have limits, and some things you just can't change or escape from.

"Try to make ends meet , you're a slave to the money then you die."
Trying to make ends meet, try to find somebody then you die.

He wants to somehow do something different but..... he sees that in his mold his like milion others trying to do the same.

"No change, I can change, I can change, I can change,
but I'm here in my mould , I am here in my mould.
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mould, no,no,no,no,no,no,no"

Were all human and that's what being human is like. So trying to do something different is futile, this is the bitter part of life. On the other hand trying somehow to create something different makes you feel better because at least it gives you some uniquness in the crowd. So you should at least try. This may sound like an absurd but hey, life is bitter...
On the other hand the sweet part is realising all those facts I have mentioned before. It makes you feel...

"Well I've never prayed,
But tonight I'm on my knees, yeah.
I need to hear some sounds that recognise the pain in me, yeah.
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind , I feel free now.
But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singing to me now."

Knowing all this makes you feel free. Because you're somehow above all this, yet inside as well. But moments like that are sweet because then you really feel human and being alive at the same time.

I don't like the Cruel Intentions link. I was growing uo when this song came out. I'll always link it to walking down the street bumping into people when I was jsut starting to get into maisntream pop music.

This is a very good song. It is about a habbit probably drugs that you inject. He talks about money and that is because he's using alot of money to buy drugs and when he says I'll take you down the only road I'v ever known and where all the veins meet that is talking about drugs and how he cant change his habbit.

This is a great song. Unfortunately Limp Bizkit made a cover of it. Needless to say, it is the worst thing that has happened in music

This is a great song. I heard it while watching Cruel Intentions, which is great by the way and not a bad movie, and I bought the soundtrack just for the song. It really is beautiful and realistic. It fit at the end of the movie perfectly. The thing is its just it sounds so familiar. All of my friends say it sound familiar and I doubt that its because of a Rolling Stones song. I know that it was in a McDonalds commercial...or I think it was. Does anyone know what else it was in?

ps. how doesn' this fit into the ending of cruel intentions.. ok a guy, who was a player just found the love of his life...and he dies. 'try to make ends meet, find somebody then you die'
maybe he didnt get on his knees and pray.. but hes stuck in a way of life and wants to change... fuck. this is so good for the movie

This song is a good one to listen to when I'm feeling sad. It makes me feel like there are other people who know what I'm going through. Life is tough and sometimes it seems pointless. Sometimes the world seems crazy and messed up. But just the fact that other people acknowledge this fact makes it easier to keep going...
