Lyrics for Bittersweet Symphony as interpreted by kevin

Bittersweet Symphony Lyrics
Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this life...
Try to make ends meet , you're a slave to the money then you die.
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down...
You know the one that takes you to the places where all the things meet, yeah.

No change, I can change, I can change, I can change,
but I'm here in my mould , I am here in my mould.
But I'm a million different people from one day to the next...
I can't change my mould , no,no,no,no,no,no,no

Well I've never prayed,
But tonight I'm on my knees, yeah.
I need to hear some sounds that recognise the pain in me, yeah.
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind , I feel free now.
But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singing to me now.

No change, I can change, I can change, I can change,
but I'm here in my mould , I am here in my mould.
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mould, no,no,no,no,no,no,no

Have you ever been down?
I can change, I can change...

Cause it's a bittersweet symphony this life.
Trying to make ends meet, try to find somebody then you die.
You know I can change, I can change, I can change,
but I'm here in my mould, I am here in my mould.
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next.
I can't change my mould, no,no,no,no,no,no,no

We've got ya sex and violence melody and silence
(Have you ever been down)
(I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down)

i wish people would just associate this song with cruel intentions, yes the films good- but this song is so much more and this is songmeanings- not a movie board! this song to me is a momentous occasion song like the day you finish school and walk out the gates- this song was playing in my head. its an anthem of our generation- one of the verves best known songs, but you should listen to some of the less well known stuff and hear the genius that is richard ashcroft. i think the first line explains what the song is about- its about life and how it is bittersweet- you get the good and the bad!

I think this song is about how he's gone through his whole life being a certain type of person and now he wants to change but no one will let him because they see him in his "mould"

I agree that its a great driving song, particulary when you need to feel empowered, or need a moment to remember YOU. I've always loved Richard Ashcroft and recommend to check out UNKLE too!

Good point catherineks. The part does get stuck in your head, just like the entire tune of Led Zeppelin's Kashmir.

The lyrics of this song are supreme - they're like stuck on my bedroom wall. It's particulary good in focusing you on sticking to yourself and not changing for anyone, just to become another sheep in a world which basically consists of selfish and cruel people.

this song to me signifies completion... an ends.... irony...i love the lyrics... to bad that the verve didn't credit the stones on this cover, because a large sum of the royalties to this song ended up going to the stones... bittersweet, hey....

Life is simply bittersweet.......some people want or expect it to be all good, some think it's all bad, but really everyday is bittersweet, both good and bad properties are involved... and for some, it takes a whole life of learning just to realize that.

To me the song is about how you work and work and work and thats all you do your whole life just for money. i think the song tries to relate everything (sex, violence) to money. the song i think tried to depict alot of bad things in the world and the singer asks god for help, to "clense his mind" and he wants to change. not be run by money. it also vaguely mentions everything in life being in vain. an example is: Trying to make ends meet, try to find somebody then you die.

I like it when he's going against the flow of people, and he just keeps walking and walking through those obstacles, like he's not afraid to go against all these people.

Ya, this song does make me want to walk down the street running into people! lol It does have a great music video though, I love how he's just oblivious to everyone and everything. I've tried doing this in the hallway at school, it was really funny because it seems like everyone just gets out of your way.

Its about the day in day out slog of life. Good times, bad times and all those times when your just going through the motions and not feeling much at all. I've always interpreted the "I can change" bit as wanting to be someone else wanting to break out but you can't change your "mould". The "million different people" bit just refers to the many faces we all have but at the end of day you can't break away from who you are.

This songs just about the ups and downs of life. Hence Bittersweet symphony". But it is beautiful and it uncapsulates life in a brilliantly harsh way "You're a slave to the money then you die". Goddamn I wish I wasn't such a broke waster.

This is a really powerful song, is just so deep. It's trying to tell that everyone sees life in a different way and everyone takes different pads, but at the end the pads of life are inter-connected, and these inter-connections are the ones that make life worth while.
"No change, I can change..." Expresses the inability all of the human beings have for leaving behind the person they are to become someone better. And at the same time it transmits that necessity of becoming someone better.
"I'm a million different people from one day to the next." This line is trying to tell the hypocrisy we all possess, and the way we change ourselves when we are with a determinate person or facing certain situation.
"Well I've never prayed, But tonight I'm on my knees, yeah. I need to hear some sounds that recognise the pain in me, yeah." This line talks about the hard times in line... it gives a feeling of sadness is just so depressing. The first sentence is when you feel like all hope is lost so you find yourself doing things you usually won't, like praying.
The second sentence describes that when we are depressed we just need of a sad song that can define better the way we feel than what we can define ourselves. The previous interpretation leads me to the next line:
"I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind , I feel free now" This comes when you are not depressed anymore, when you have moved on.

As I said it before this song ROCKS! It describes perfectly what life's like; Bittersweet...

Try to make ends meet, your a slave to the money then you die. So true. The hidden meaning to this song isn't in the lyrics but the fact the riff is a Rolling Stones one played backwards. Never seen Cruel Intensions though.
