Well, I'm goin' to a place where the tough guys go
And come out even tougher.
A place where a man don't show his feelings,
A place where a man don't cry.

Well they say I'm being punished
And they say I can be reformed
But some day I'll return.
Did they really think that

This time it would work.
You knew all along it wouldn't

[Chorus]
Oh, I'm prison bound
I did a crime one too many times.
It's on the outskirts of town, by the railroad tracks
Where the country moon shines.
Oh, I'm prison bound
Tell my girl I'll be back one day.
Oh, I'm prison bound
I may never know any other way.

Well, they take away my freedom of expression or action
Johnny says I'll walk the line
With three hots and a cot

And a lot of talk
With lock-up, concrete, and steel.
Well it's cold and it's clammy
Man, it's colder than a pimp's heart

But I've gotta do my time
There's a lesson to be learned here
But what a price to pay.
You know, I may never learn-

[Chorus]

"Prison Bound was written hand in hand with No Pain No Gain. It wonders what if things had been different. I had tested fate and had been lucky in the judicial system. Most of my friends either ended up in jail or dead - any one of them could have been me. I imagined myself on the bus to jail, going to the state facility, telling everyone I'd be back." -Mike Ness, Live at the Roxy booklet, on "Prison Bound"

Mike's speech before playing Prison Bound at that same concert: "How ya doin’? Man, ya know… I was drivin’ through Hollywood today, and it was… that parking lot, across the street from the Whiskey, ‘bout eighteen years ago, we used to sit back there and drink, and well… we’d… we’d get warmed up for the show. That was back in the time when society was not quite ready for this type of music, heh… does anyone remember those days? That’s when punk rock was dangerous, right? You couldn’t walk into the mall and get your little pussy pierced… heh… and your little Doc Marten boots, and your crazy color for your hair. You walk down the street with blue hair, you was gonna get in a fight with about five angry construction workers. Or the local college football team, rednecks, or cops. Yeah sometimes they kicked our ass but ya know what? Sometimes we beat the FUCK out of ‘em! That’s right, I was about four-foot-fuckin’-eight and I hit the biggest motherfucker there… this song is called Prison Bound."
