Lyrics for Can't You Hear Me Knocking as interpreted by spliphstar

Can't You Hear Me Knocking Lyrics
Yeah, you got satin shoes
Yeah, you got fancy boots
Y'all got cocaine eyes
Yeah, you got speed freak jive

Can't you hear me knockin' on your window
Can't you hear me knockin' on your door
Can't you hear me knockin' down the dirty street

Hey, help me baby, I ain't no stranger
Help me baby, I ain't no stranger
Help me baby, I ain't no stranger

Can't you hear me knockin' when you're safe asleep
Can't you hear me knockin' down the gas light street
Can't you hear me knockin' throw me down the keys

Alright now

Hear me ringing big bells toll
Hear me singing soft and low
I've been begging on my knees
I've been kickin'
Help me please
Hear me prowlin
I'm gonna take you down
Hear me growlin', yeah
I've got flatted feet
Now, now, now hear me howlin'
I'm all around your street now
Hear me knockin' I'm around your town

the lyrics sound like someone who's trying to stop doing heroin talking to an old lover.

this song has the best jam ever. they were recording the song and mick taylor kept playing after all the others stopped. they picked their instruments back up and he led them into a great five minute jam.

I first heard this song on the movie blow and I have loved it ever since. And since it was on blow, which is about cocaine I really feel the drug vibe on it.

This isn't really about drugs. It's just another installment of "Mick Jagger the prowler"--a continuation if you will of Midnight Rambler. Having said that---it is the single greatest rock song of all-time. Keith Richards is the finest rhythm guitarist ever and an underrated lead guitarist as well.

Mick Taylor was the Greatest lead Guitar player in the history of the Stones.....If Ya Ya's doesn't prove it to you, go get some of the bootlegs from the 72-73 tours.

This song was in Good fellas. Not sure if it was in Blow.

Like many stone #'s the lyrics are very secondary. These fit right in.....but Mick does a good job getting the emotion across and of course Taylor shines.

It's in Blow and Casino (not Goodfellas), and I don't really care what it's about, I just love the start of this song, it kicks ar$e.

I think when the song turns all Jazzy and shit and Bobby Keyes starts playing the sax is the finest part that song never lets go for 7 minutes. One of the most under-rated songs in the history of rock and roll. It really defines what the stones are all about and nobody realizes what and amazing accomplishment it is. It's not on 40 licks so the younger generations won't even be aware of the amazing possibilities this song contains.

The crunching guitar-riff at the beginning is actually Keith Richards, not Taylor, but you're right, I have quite a few live versions of songs from the '72 tour and Taylor was just amazing.

It sounds like he is a junkie and going in to withdrawls (I've been kickin', Help me please) and is trying to get a hold of his dealer or a hustlers (Yeah, you got satin shoes
Yeah, you got fancy boots
Y'all got cocaine eyes
Yeah, you got speed freak jive)
and
(Hey, help me baby, I ain't no stranger)
He is trying to get a hold of them but its not working

I always thought it was "nasty boobs" not "fancy boots" haha just kidding

But seriously I think he's saying "plastic boots" and "I've got MIGHTY feet", not flattened

This song is not just what the Stones are about, it's what rock and roll is, or at least should be about. Stay true to the old blues legends but do your own thing. This song has SOUL

Nolesy101, what? The younger generations? How young are we talking about? I'm twenty-five, and I'm the biggest Stones fan I know...my dad was into Zeppelin and the like, (he's only 19 years older than me) but not really the stones, but I discovered them, myslef, and Can't You Hear Me Knocking is one of my favs. Sticky Fingers is one of their best...probably second or third...Beggar's Banquet is the shit. Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers are neck and neck for second...and you can't forget about Exile...but what do I know, I'm just one of the younger generation, who knows nothing about music, right?...oh and I knew every chord of this song, long before Blow came out!

heard it in blow, and later guitar hero 2, which is when i REALLY got hooked on this song. it seems to me like its from the boyfriend of a pretty wealthy, coked out woman, who has forgotten about her lover and focuses on her own wealth and chemical-induced happiness. her boyfriend is desperately trying to win her attention back to him.

filling the gaps...the song is about when mick taylor first joined the group when he was 19 and the group was all blowing coke cranking music up loud and taylor was beating on the door to get in but they couldn't here him and supposedly when he came in he said "cant you all hear me knockin" and they wrote the song on the spot with mick taylor creating the main guitar rift.,, then the rest of the song is about the groupies and drug addicts they had to deal with all the time...
