Lyrics for Angie as interpreted by spliphstar

Angie Lyrics
Oh Angie, Oh Angie, when will those dark clouds disappear
Angie, Angie, where will it lead us from here
With no loving in our souls and no money in our coats
You can't say we're satisfied
But Angie, Angie, you can't say we never tried.

Angie, you're beautiful, but ain't it time we said goodbye
Angie, I still love you, remember all those nights we cried
All the dreams we held so close seemed to all go up in smoke
Let me whisper in your ear
Angie, Angie, where will it lead us from here
Oh, Angie, don't you weep, all your kisses still taste sweet
I hate that sadness in your eyes
But Angie, Angie, ain't it time we said good-bye

With no loving in our souls and no money in our coats
You can't say we're satisfied
But Angie, I still love you, Baby, ev'rywhere I look I see your eyes
There ain't a woman that comes close to you come on baby, dry your eyes

But Angie, Angie, ain't it good to be alive
Angie, Angie, they can't say we never tried

I heard that Keith Richards titled the song Angie, but Jagger wrote all the words. I think I read that on Wikipedia, but I could be wrong.

I like how this song is so bittersweet, as if the singer isn't willing to let go yet he HAS to. The why behind it is such a mystery. I like that aspect.

I could be wrong and I mean no offense by what I'm about to type...Believe me I LOVE Bowie and I LOVE Jagger....but I was told by reliable sources, that it is about Bowie and Jagger sharing more than songs..if you catch my drift...and Angie found out about Bowie the hard way...Jagger had a thing for Angela and she rejected him forever...that's what you get for being famous, sexy, and married!

this song makes me cry. He liikes her but must let her go because he wants to move on with his life. The relationship wasn't working out between them

It's about an intense relationship, so passionate (everywhere I look I see your eyes); but totally untenable in the eyes of the world, this hidden relationship would never work out in real life.(thus the comments about money in our coats) He WANTS it to work, he really does...and even in its ending it brings a bittersweet joy (aint it good to be alive?)

Ok I just read in an interview with keith in the september issue of mojo that the song is about his daughter Angie who was born while he was in a clinic and he couldn't see her. He still gets choked up talking about it and when the stones play it on tour. I'm not sure if you need a better source than that.

This is so ridiculous, everyone is absolutely sure of their answers to who this song is about, but they are all wrong. No one in the stones wrote this song at all. The man who wrote this song happened to be my grandfather who wrote it about his ex-girlfriend, and sold it as a "Ghost Song" to them because he needed the money, being a poor musician. They decided to play this song, then countless rumors arose to who this was actually about. Obviously they weren't going to say they bought the song from some poor musician, so they went along with some of these rumors (i.e. Kieth Richards and his daughter).

With no loving in our souls and no money in our coats

I envisioned
two hollow people that share a hollow world
they have found each other but both knew the the joy would be fleeting
and that they would part
