Lyrics for Wild Horses as interpreted by spliphstar

Wild Horses Lyrics
Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I can't let you slide through my hands

Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses couldn't drag me away

I watched you suffer a dull, aching pain
Now you've decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Can make me feel bitter or treat you unkind

Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses couldn't drag me away

I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I don't have much time
Faith has been broken, tears must be cried
Let's do some living after we die

Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them someday

Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them someday

Keith Richards originally wrote this about Anita. Mick may have changed some of the lyrics but that post about Marianne coming up with the title is wrong. You can thank Keith, not Mick, for bringing this song to life.

It's a classic and if other artists cover it, what more could cement the status?

According to Mick and Keith, they both went to see marianne faithfull at the hospital. She had been admited due to an overdose of drugs and alcohol, and almost died. They were standing beside here when she woke up and one of them said, Marianne we thought we had lost you. Marianne replied, "wild horse couldn't drag me away".......

This is by far the most beautiful song i have ever heard! It is my favorite stones song and thank you Mick Jagger for bringing this song to life! I think this song is about a guy losing his girl friend and talking about heavening to her or i also think it is about a guy who can't tame his wild girlfriend.

wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away...by far one of the stones best works. its beautiful the way mick's voice and the guitar just completely compliment each other in every respect. amazing.

not bad guys. its right that mick wrote the song for marianne, but there's more behind it: marianne tride to kill herself, but survived. mick brought her to hospital and stayed by her side. she was clinical dead as she suddenly opend her eyes. mick told her, that the doctors had allready given up all hope, and that he was really happy to see her alive. she answered:"not even ten wild wild horses could drag me from this world!" afterwords they were a pair, but it didn't work out good...

I think you guys watch too much Buffy.

Beautiful song though, lilavati is probably right but I really don't know. Great song to play for your girlfriend.

this is most definately my favorite Rolling Stones song. actually this is probably one of my favorite songs of all time. btw Buffy5x5 I saw that episode and I remember them playing that song, it fit perfectly. I think this song is good no matter who sings it, but the Stones and the Sundays are my favorites. and I also agree with everyone else's thoughts about its meaning.

I think the "female" cover you guys are speaking of is by the Sundays. Their cover of this song was played during the last scene of the Buffy episode called "The Prom" from season 3. I must say, this song and Dead Flowers are my 2 favorite Stones songs. Great song. I think I agree with what has already been said about it.

This song just leaves me speechless...my all time favorite Stones song. I have all the covers by females or Dave Matthews or Bush or whoever and none compare to the Stones...but I love it.

The girlfriend was Marianne Faithfull, Mick wrote the lyrics in an attempt to get her to stay with him. Unfortunately it didn't work...I think it was originally a Keith song, and he came up with the line "wild horses couldn't drag me away".

Song kicks ass. Mick Jagger did a wonderful job singing it. I recently heard it again resung by a woman, but it is done much better by Mick.

Yup, I would 100% agree with that, and the chorus is saying, no matter how much he gets hurt, or how bad she treats him, nothing will stop him from loving her (wild horses couldnt drag me away) I love this song so much, it really suits Mick Jaggers unique voice, and the acoustic guitars are beautiful

i think this song is about a guy who's involved with this girl who has suffered through something and takes it out on him. However, as much as she hurts him he still loves her and does whatever he can to make her happy. i think it a really sweet song but also really sad
