IMHO: the deeper meaning goes beyond all of the worldly things that have been ascribed here to the lyrics. There is no mention of a girl, or a surfboard. It is a love song, but it is written to you, and possibly to what is in himself that is also in you. I am in you as you are in me is a very old concept of great philosophical and transcendent power.
It is not plastic, nor is it glass, it is easier to see through and has no ring.
probably not air, but is something that must be broken. Time fits these things but it is not to be broken. Your mind must be broken. How??? by killing eliminating removing time. Why? because time kills you, it is the poison in your mind. its not time's fault, nor is it your fault, it is just an eternal truth. the more you turn away from all of that which is eternal, the more you bind your mind to time, that is what kills you.

Why would Jacks songs have such a deep and resonant message? I believe, having surfed, that he has had a lot of time in the spirit, in god, sitting and waiting for a wave. By losing what he loved he was broken away from it all. He is bringing you a message. I think it is prophetic. Deny it if you want, but i tell you the truth here. Denying the truth is like killing all the prophets that have come before and said the same thing in different words. This thing we cling to called life, is done in error. Fear fuels it. fear is in one sense just the idea that we may loose something important, but none of this life is important because it all will change, and there is nothing you can do about it. the future is something that does not exist, literally and figuratively, it is only a shadow of time created by your memory of what you have seen or done. the past is written and does not change. only this moment is real and from hour to minute to second to now is the path we all walk. just try to tell someone exactly what time it is, you cannot. by the time words leave your mouth and reach their ear, it has 'gone away'.
the gift of this is learning to understand and live it, the better you get the slower time will go by, until it goes away all together. this is just a reprieve from the next disaster the pulls you back into the time in your mind.
go and kill your time. tell those you love and those you hate what it means. shed away your fears so you can be in that moment of eternity.
i have done this only a few times effectively, but i keep trying, always wanting to put it first in my mind, that all of this is only temporary.
I think it's saying to "bend" as in to try to fit in, and when it says "bend don't shatter" it means to try to fit in but not to forget who you are or lose yourself. And when it says "unlike plastic, easier to see through" means she's not completely fake since you can still see who she is but she's "just like glass with no ring" means you can see through her act and see the real her but she can't stand up for herself and then people realize what she's doing and leave her, hence "everyone you wanted to see, and everyone you wanted to meet, have all gone away" and when it sas "you're breaking your mind by killing the time that kills you" means she's going crazy and losing her mind because she's trying so hard to fit in.
