Now I'm not the type to just act like I know
Putting on an angle, putting on a show
Speaking on nothing makes you a stunt
I'll tell you right here yo I won't front
I cross the Ts and skip non-legitimacies, or else please
I cannot handle all the negative vibe merchants
Is that all you have in you, per chance?
So much angst and pain it's so whack
You should take a tip from the one Frank Black
Play some Pachinko, play some Parcheesi
'Cause all the angst shit is just cheesy

It's a 311 bliss, too smooth for pissed
Lyrics talking loud again, yeah, we are the party men
Cosmetics that you fretted, we sport the high aesthetic
Here go, rap kicking the dazzled crazy mathematic
I am what I am, mix some old school jams
On to tape 'cause the party's in the crates I scan
Step into the realm, what you gonna do
Give the party people something funky to listen to

Misdirected hostility, that's what you got see
Misdirected hostility, that's what you got see
Misdirected hostility, that's what you got see
Misdirected hostility, that's what you got

Bodyrock pop and lock, here's an example
Boulevard chrome beats always amping your temple
Punks get got in the age of hip hop
It's just begun like stolen bikes on the blacktop
Born to sing a lyric immaculately concepted
No strain in your game if your game is respected
Come as you are, radio star
Drown out the hatred with a rhyme, an electric guitar
Dispatched when rap shattered the glass of radio access
May we turn some soul on their rhythmless dances
You know the time and they'll know the scoop
They'll say it was a rhyme and a beat of a rap group

Your rhymes have been outmoded
Your rhymes have been outmoded
Your rhymes have been outmoded
Your rhymes have been outmoded
Your rhymes have been outmoded

So just quit your bellyaching
You're saying that your tortured
Give me a fucking break
And maybe take out the source of your despairing
What do I mean, kick the fucking heroin!
I speak from experience
Because I didn't see clearly once, acting like a dunce
In 1989 I was cocaine and Jim Beam
But now it's '95 and I'm ginseng

Misdirected hostility, that's what you got see
Misdirected hostility, that's what you got see
Misdirected hostility, that's what you got see
Misdirected hostility, that's what you got...

General Comment:Misdirected Hostility was written in reference to the violence between the Phunk Junkeez and their back-up vocalist K-Tel Disco.

General Comment:it encompasses all of what you said: Nirvana, punk music, etc. Its everything that preaches negativity or hostility. Its saying that there isnt any point behind it. that music is all about being positive and being funky like 311 is. its also basically saying that 311 is the sh*t so quit your bellyachin', get with the program.

definitely one of my favorite 311 rap songs.

General Comment:this song is Cool, I always find myself listening to hive-guns-misdirected all in a row. I dont think the "Come as you are" part is rly about Nirvana, maybe it is. Hes talking about his punk roots getting drowned out by rap.
Like alot of SA's lyrics i think hes talking about how hes better than all of these Rappers out there with "rhythmless dances"
You know the time and they'll know the scoop
They'll say it was a rhyme and a beat of a rap group

I think mainstream RAP nowadays is pretty shitty, lyrics-wise. The beats are ok but not the rhymes like 311.

    Your rhymes have been outmoded!

General Comment:Hey I agree with omen5773, it makes sense:

"punks get got in the age of hip hop",

"come as you are radio star
drown out the hatred with a rhyme, an electric guitar
Come as you are is obviously a nirvana song, and drown out the hatred with a rhyme and electric guitar? Sure fits the bill.

"may we turn some soul on their rhythmless dances"
Sounds like "punk" dancing to me.

General Comment:the person he's telling to kick the drugs seems to be kurt cobain. There are several references made that connect this song to Kurt and Nirvana. "so just quit your bellyachin'
    you're saying that your tortured
give me a f---in break and
maybe take out the source of your despairing
what do I mean, kick the f---in' heroin" - Kurt was said to have a stomach problem that caused him alot of pain, and as evryone knows, he had a serios heroin addiction
